        Hi Mommies

Can I check if any of your kids attends Berries Primary 1 level classes? My girl will be in P1 next year and she has been taking Berries since N2. As we don’t speak Chinese much at home, she tends to forget what she has learnt very quickly. Am wondering if I should continue with Berries next year for P1 or switch to a private tuition teacher? (my own Mandarin is hopeless so cant really teach and also worried if I can help her in her schoolwork!)

My daughter attends Berries but I also have the advantage that my MIL is an ex-Chinese teacher so she has a lot of help at home. I think if I didn’t have my MIL I might consider changing to a private teacher as she really does need help with things like her "ting xie" which I can’t do. However, the challenge might be actually motivating her to do it as it wouldn’t be as much "fun" as Berries - and she already complains that Berries is boring.

            Thanks nms1 for your feedback.

I was just wondering how is Berries’ primary 1 course like, as I do not want my gal to have additional pressure in Chinese with both school work and Berries’ work. If school is sufficient then I will take her out of berries. I was thinking of stopping berries end of this year and see how her chinese goes in P1.

Any mommies with experiences with Berries?

My daughter is doing Higher Chinese at Berries (much more popular than normal) so she does find it tougher than school but they give very little homework, usually only 1 short worksheet so it's not really adding any pressure. I think the main issue for her is that she feels that a lot of the class is better than her so she is a bit shy to speak up.

                  have.
from my general observation, berries' forte is in their preschool curriculum. This is attested by their reduction in the number of classes as the level progresses.
From P3 onwards, if your kid still needs help with chinese, it is better to look elsewhere, whether private or tuition centre.

Hi! I have send my nephew to Tien Hsia since N1 to K2 THIS YEAR till 2nd term(AT BISHAN) and transfer him to Hua language at United Sq…

Tien Hsia does give chinese Test every 9 lession which is good. The test are base on what is taught during this 9 lesson, which is good to prepare them for Primary one. They do give chinese spelling.
I hve transfer him to Hua Language due to distance from home. He is happy with Hua Language for his 3rd and 4th term. They are equally good too.
                      Hope this help

My girl used to be with Tien Hsia at Bishan CC since K2 til June this year. She’s in P1.

I feel that Tien Hsia not bad… teachers are committed and I am quite ok with the materials… there’s Spelling every week, not a lot of homework… The lessons are conducted in lively manner but not so "kidish"… My girl likes the lessons.
