Help in HMT.

I hope the school and MOE will allow your son to take HCL, given his strong CL results. Good luck![/quote]Hi Jtoh, :thankyou:
He is in sec3 this year. I don't think the school allow him to take HCL even though he got a A1 this year. If he is in sec2, it will be possible. But he onlyrylee:

Is he already in Sec 4? If not, can he request to take HCL now?
managed to get a A2 last year. Anyway, I just sent a email to MOE last night. Will update after I got their reply. Thanks. -
If he does get 4 points, I think he can appeal to the schools. RI and HCI do have places reserved for those without HMT who can only get lowest of 4 points. Not sure if VJC does. I would think they do though. Otherwise can try for DSA.

how to get just 4points? Can advise? Tq

Herbie, I think twilight means the student gets straight As = 6 points; less 2 points for CCA = 4 points.

Yes, we wil be trying DSA for him next year using music. So far, he did pretty well for his sec2 and sec3 exam. Thanks for your input. -

1) My nephews/nieces schools (neighbourhood schools) only allow their students to switch to HCL if the students get A1 (not even A2) in their CL in Sec 1 and 2. You may want to check with the school what is its policy on this. I doubt MOE will give you a clear answer as such requests are usually handled by the principal directly.

2) For me, I will talk to the principal on my son interest. I will request for my son to sit for the school HCL exam in Sec 3 and use the result to convince the school that my son can cope with the tough syllabus of HCL. I doubt a pass (say C5 or C6) will convince the school to let your son take up HCL in Sec 4. You may want to check with the school what grade your son must get before he can do HCL in Sec 4. Do note that the gap between normal CL and HCL is quite big.
3) You need a grade of A1 to C6 in both first languages (i.e. English and a Higher Mother Tongue) to get the 2 bonus point in 'O' level. Hence assuming your son did badly for Eng or HCL (say D7), he will not get the 2 bonus point.
4) Assuming your son manage to get the 2 bonus point, he may not guarantee a place in VJC even though he meets the cutoff point. 2 years ago when my niece got her O level results, she got 8 A1s for other subjects but B3 for Eng and HCL. After deducting 4 bonus points, she managed to enrol into NJC. Her classmates who did not get straights A1s for the other subjects but performed better in Eng or HCL did not qualified for NJC, even though they also got the 4 bonus points. Hence, I believe the JCs do look at individual subjects, or prefer those students who use raw scores instead of bonus points. Maybe someone can verify this point or you may want to check with MOE on this. -
Just want to clarify.
HMT can be used to obtain the 2 bonus points for JC admission. It can also be used (with a D7 or better) to seek exemption from taking MT during JC, right?
So shouldn’t one try to take it at ‘O’ levels, if permitted?
Thanks. -

Students may not want to take up as HCL is not easy. Some students already have problems coping with their normal CL.
