Its best to join a cca that is easier to cope with for sec sch can be very busy and it is difficult to balance CCAs and studies together, especially during sec 3

        I need your advice pls!

My dd decided to change her CCA. She’s currently in GG. Despite my persuasion, she wanted out. So, I will let her make her own decision this time. In the beginning of Sec 1, her first choice was ODAC & 2nd was GG (my choice). In the end, school put her in GG. Now, she doesn’t want to go back to ODAC either as her friends who are in it says it’s tough. So, she’s thinking of badminton or basketball. I know I need to let her make her decision this time & stand by it. However, I wld still like to hear any comments about these 2 CCAs so that she can make an informed choice.

Hi Sparks, sports cca is the most draining, time-consuming and physically- demanding cca in sec sch. Well, all cca are challenging and time-consuming. Your dd will have to go for trial if she wants to get into badminton or basketball team. Does her sch allow her to change cca? For a lot of sec sch, the students have to give good reasons to change.

Since she’s the one taking the cca, I think you should let her make the decision.

Hi sparks, Will the school penalise your dd for changing CCAs, as in will she lose CCA points? Also, if your child’s in the school team for badminton or basketball you can expect rather intensive practices - at least 3 times a week, if not more.

Does the LEAP system apply to IP school? Do the IP kids need the CCA points?

They do calculate LEAP points but CCA points aren't as important as for O level students. But good LEAP points help in your portfolio.

                      thanks jtoh.

But it doesnt matter how many points they get right anyway they will proceed to the relevant JC (as they are IP). What’s the portfolio for?

Don’t think the points matter bec they won’t be using it in IP. But I think strong LEAPS points would be useful in scholarship applications or even Uni application.
