My son will be starting Yr 1 next year. How’s the traffic along Dover Road to the school in the morning? Is it heavy?


Am thinking of just dropping my son off along Dover Road East and he can walk across to the school so that I can just make a left turn from there towards North Buona Vista.

Traffic is OK but gets heavier after 7am. If you drop him off without turning into the school it’s not so bad. The other way is to drop him off at the back of the school - there’s a bus stop on the AYE towards city right at the school back-gate. The gate is open on weekdays duriing school hours. I’ve also seen parents dropping their children at the opp side of the same highway, and they then cross over on the pedestrian bridge across the highway.

Q1: Must my son a Uniform Group.
For UGs every student has to take up one except for those who came in through Sport DSA. UG are held every Friday from 2.30- about 6.00 (FYI school ends a 1 on friday but there is white space, time which the teachers may wish to take up to teach. But 95% of the time there is no whitespace) Only BB is held every Saturday. Most UGs have about 30-40 students per leverl except for scouts which has abut 70. It is popular as it is considered "slack". Being in scouts, i do feel it is a little less stressful than other UGs as we have like drill practices once in a semester. Other UGs have it every week. Other than that scouts just plays games. Most other UGs do the same thing. Pertaining to camps,it usually starts on the last Friday of the term and ends on the following sunday. It is about 3 times a year but varied from one UG to another.

Q2: Is it demanding to be in the school team?
Although being in the school team is demanding especially during the season, teachers are understanding and give us extensions. Sometimes we come home at about 8. CCAs like Canoeing, Rugby, Swimming, Cricket etc which the schools excels in do have quite a few training sessions. But homework given in the SBGE classes is very little as most teachers urge them to finish it in class, saving time for other activities. Also if you consistently study you will have no problem for exams.

Q3: Does the school provide transport to MOELC?

I have heard they have just started it and it is quite expensive, about 20 for 2 one way trip not quite sure but will check. Malay Special Programme is held in school. Most students in MSP are also in the Regional Studies Programme Scholarship. It is a interactive programme which is held throughout the year which teaches more about out country and our neighbours. No exams for this! There is only exams for MSP. RSP is quite fun but most find it troublesome to learn a new language. But taking MSP is a must for RSP.

If they are for Express, then what was the COP for IP for the 2011 Sec 1 intake and vice versa.
