If you're visiting Mt Fuji, it will still be cold and weather these days are rather unpredictable.I'm planning a mid-Dec trip for my two kids (4 + 9yrs) to Central Honshu later this year. Places of intertest would be Mt Fuji, Osaka, Kyoto and of course Tokyu.
Does anyone know what would be the lowest temperature over there around Dec 15 onwards. Don't wish to bring too many winter clothing in case they are not needed.
A check reveal the likely temp around that time not dipping to below zero deg so means unlikley to see snow.....not so sure whether aunty El Nino is planning any surprise this year. Now understand Typhoon Roke is pounding Tokyo.
Mt Fuji @ mid-Dec should be able to see some snow as ever experienced sudden dropped of temperature (from around 5 to -11 @ Mt Fuji 5th station in mid-Dec).
If going Disneyland/Disneysea, do bring thick jackets, especially for kids, it will be very cold especially if you're going to stay for fireworks. -

Hi all,
i am planning a trip to Hokkaido in mid-Dec with my family with 2 kids. its ourfirst time there.
Anyone been there before and can feedback what is nice ? will it be snowing then, i wish to ski when i am there
hope to hear from you soon..
We went to Hokkaido few yrs ago and is v nice especially at Otaru amd Hakodate, but our package did not include the skiing. But during winter time, the day v short, moon come out around 5pm so the shops close quite early at sapporo and we even miss out the Lake Akan view due to too dark
My colleague went during April and he able to enjoy a much better view than me plus flowers blooming scenery... -
Any good suggestion for budget hotels in Tokyo town where I can have easy access to places of interest? :snooze:

It should be snowing and you should be able to ski by mid Dec. We were there in Hokkaido couple years back and love the tranquility and beautiful scenery. My son did skiing there, although my hubby and I didn't do it as we have some old injuries. It was cold but if you are well prepared with the clothings and heat pads, should be ok. Once the kids start to ski, they will not feel cold from all the activities. Days are short but the experience is really very different from what we have in Singapore.Hi all,

Hi, we intends to have a family trip this Dec at Tokyo. Will be free and easy, any hotel recommended and which location is better, ie. Shinjuku, Akihabara, Asakusa, Ginza, etc?
We have an infant, a toddler, a kid and elderly parent with us, one of the destination will be Disneyland.
Shall we get a JR pass or more convenient to buy per use card?
Thank you for your advice. -

We took the Romance Car (actually a train) from Shinjuku to Hakone. About 1.5 hour ride:tony:
Hi lwm99,
How do you get from Hakone to Tokyo? Do you take a flight or train?
TIA

On the way back, we went to Gotemba factory outlet, and took a bus back from there. That is one of the best outlets around Tokyo, and we had a good view of Mt Fuji from there.
Hi lwm99,
The odakyu Romance Car, did you took the package? is it guided?? Or all on your own, i.e Hakone,Gotemba?
Thanks.
