Vlim,
Can u give an update of your trip when u get back? I am thinking of going next year now that silk air flies there. But I heard that it is less kids friendly compared to Bali and Phuket and hotels there do not usually have kids club. If you can share your experience, it’ll be much appreciated. -
The best time to visit Koh Samui is between December and February. The temperatures at this time hover at 30 degree C, which is the coolest it will get. There may be a burst of tropical rain in December. Carry sun-protection, hats and cotton clothes.
Thanks a lot,

Hi Dnls_mum, tried both Phuket and Koh Samui together with another family w kids. We both preferred Phuket less travel time (bef Silkair direct), more to see, better shopping. Service levels in Phuket are of a higher standard if you compare Anantara Phuket (Mai Khao) with Anantara Bophut. Both have pool villas - so the water babies had loads of fun. Mai Khao beach is also more exclusive and sand is finer BUT not the white, powdery type. Did not try the kids club though. Only thing Samui wins is the restaurant views on the cliffs overlooking the sea - however food is normal, nothing to rave about. Easier in Phuket to find food to rave over.Vlim,

DH and I have been to Phuket and so thought of trying Samui with the kids. But since I have not been able to find any truly family friendly resort I really like in Samui and now with your feedback, looks like Phuket is still a better place with kids. Maybe samui better for honeymooners.

Hi, anyone knows if there’s going to be promo soon on airtickets? Is silkair the only airline flying direct?

SilkAir and Bangkok Airways are the only 2 carriers that fly direct.
Seldom (more like no) got promotions to Koh Samui because there are limited flights and they are always full. -
oh, tks for the info, floppy.
Have you been there? How do you rate it compared to phuket beaches? -
We went to Phuket last nov/dec
The food is dirt cheap especially the oysters ! So big and juicy at only about s$2 each
However, the taxi fare is killing us
We stayed at far end of Phuket because we prefer the private beach. So we need to get own taxi to town as it’s too far from our hotel. The taxi fare has escalated tremendously over the past few years.
Maybe you can consider the hotel nearer to town to save on transport.
Koh Samui is nice !
But it might be a bit boring for the kids. We ever rented motorbike and let our boy sit in between us while hubby rides.
Phuket got more shopping for the kids and adult.
