My maid just renew her contract with me, her current salary before new contract is S$350/-, after October, will be S$450.00, with a off day on every month. If she did not want to take the off day, I have agree to reimburse her for S$20.00

My maid told me that new maids from Philippines are getting $450 with 4 off days!!!

Hmmm....why did she tell u that? hinting/negotiating for higher salary?
Well, you can tell her it is not true.
Mine is a new maid fr PH.

She could be! But she has worked for me for 4 years, so if I want her to continue, I should give her the $450... But she only wants 2 off days, so I think its reasonable.

          hi, michyms

just curious, when your maid continue her contract, did you gave her a extra month bonus. My maid actually ask me the question.

I told her when she transfer to me that time, she actually have 7 month unpaid salary that due to agent, but I help her to waive off 1 month so she can get her salary on the six months, and that is why I am not giving her extra. Beside Chinese New year, Malay New Year, her birthday, and her parent pass away, I gave her roughly s$100.00 for every occasion. I think that is quite reasonable for me as a employer.

Beside this, my maid ask me to re-imburse her air-ticket using Garuda Airline Price as a bench mark, but not tiger air or other budget airline !

Do your maid ask for all this ?

i just got my Philippines maid (no previous exp) about 1 month ago, her salary is 420 without off day. She will get $400 once her loan is fully paid up, and she gets one off day.

My indon maid that is coming this week will be getting $460 with no off day. She is ex-Singapore.

I think it's only fair to reimburse them the equivalent of a Garuda ticket - after all sometimes you can buy a Tiger Air ticket for $1!

I think is better to go to a place that has many maid agencies , like bukit timah shopping centre.

16 employment agencies fined for fixing maids' salaries

                  By Amanda Tan

The Competition Commission of Singapore (CCS) has fined 16 employment agencies $152,563 for collectively fixing the monthly salaries of new Indonesian maids.

The agencies - which include big players like Nation Employment and Jack Focus - were found to have flouted anti-competition rules by meeting in January to discuss a collective pay increase for new Indonesian maids, from $380 to $450 a month.

The agencies said the pay revision was aimed at easing a supply crunch for Indonesian maids.

CCS said it decided to take action because the collective pay rise would affect many families in Singapore who hire domestic helpers.

as I said before, maid agencies coming together to fix minimum pay for the maid is just a scam to fleece the maids and the employers

they should have been fined more !

Pinkribbon, I give my maid about $200-300 per year as bonus. But I think that your $100 every occasion is very generous. So I think that the extra one month bonus is not compulsory. Typically when maids renew their contracts but do not go home, we should pay them a sum. And this should include airticket and 2 weeks of paid leave. My contract says the sum is $500 which I fairly reasonable... $200 for the paid leave, and $300 for air ticket. How much is the Garuda air ticket?

Actually the bonus can also be 1 month of her salary.
