Good for domestic consumption - will benefit local retailers and vendors in the right trades.

Size gives us economies of scale, give our businesses a hinterland, builds heft.

Obviously, infrastructure needs to keep pace, social integration needs to be more effective. Therein lies the unhappiness, and justifiably so.

If the infrastructures like transport, hospitals, housing, schools n land density can cope with it then it is fine.

However, it seems like the various ministries have not been coordinating with one another to build sufficient infrastructures ; especially when immigrant influx has been ramped up too sharply these last five years before we citizens were aware of this. Really cannot understand why this poor planning?

I think it is not so good… the infrastructures take time to build…

I am afraid Singapore will be like Hong Kong - very crowded.

One of my client - Taiwanese - a Singapore PR - she felt the "quality" of life has decrease compare to 5 years ago… crowded everywhere… trains, parks…

No good...Singapore is too congested now. There are social problems bcos of new immigrants. The problems they bring along from their country of origin makes it even worse.
It's crowded everywhere like what you mentioned...very very scary.

As I said, those who gripe about short-term discomforts are only seeing one side of the equation. Whilst one should not downplay infrastructure problems, one also does not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Closing our borders will have severe consequences, even for those who clamour for it and think it is a solution to all ills. It may help solve the issues around crowdedness, but will cause a whole new set of different problems, of far greater impact, in my opinion. When you look at the obvious problems, don’t forget to look at the non-obvious factors as well.
