ya this is something very bad to tell a kid especially at this age...It will give them hell lots of unnecessary stress...and end up they will under perform :skeptical:

The level head is not helping by telling him this type of expectation :slapshead: Which explains why many top scorers in prelims may not turn out as top scorers in PSLE. Too much expectations of themselves :frustrated: If you are the parent of a top scorer, don't be disappointed if your child is not performing well thus far in PSLE. And instead should encourage him/her. If his/her score can make it for dream school, that will do. If don't get in, move on and work harder in secondary school. You don't want a kid who turns out mentally ill or habour suicidal thoughts :xedfingers: Is it worth it? NO.

                  Hi Vlim,

Yes , certainly, agreed that children these days are under tremendous stress.Sometime, its the children themselves.

I know some kids in ds's school will aim nothing but 90s and its the environment that affects them alot.I also overheard, one child, math paper one with two mistakes and its already a doom for him even though paper 2 is flawless.I dont understand.

                  Regards,
                  Leanne

Just read this quote one of my friends posted on FB :

Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. A. Einstein

Let’s all enjoy these precious gifts we have been given - our children - and not let one arbitrary exam make us judge them. We all have our place in life. What is most important is that we teach our children to do our very best in whatever we do - because then the universe will be in synch - and we would have played our part in that.

Tell your DD not to be too stressed, the Maths paper is not really a very easy paper. The average students feel that it is tough. So even with her less than prefect score, she may still get A*.

Rest is very important. Please ensure that she sleeps early before the science paper. Another paper that needs full concentration especially on the MCQ. All the best.

Hi! Everyone I am a newbie just saw all your posting and feel everyone is experiencing the same stress for PSLE… I have 2 children , one PSLE another O level… my stress is double for this year… my younger one is weak in maths and after the paper he does not want to talk about at all… it’s difficult for me to check with him what are the questions as he does not want to utter a word… I guess he feels real stress inside him… hence I do not want to burden him and in fact I told him there will be no more such problem sums as you go into secondary… don’t worry just do better for the other 2 papers chinese and science…

As far as I know, some kids did very well in their PSLE but do not do well in secondary, reason they just want to score at that time… when they reach secondary they suddenly feel free can relax hence they drop during sec 1 and sec 2… especially sec 2 streaming…my older boy’s some classmates score 240 drop normal during sec 2 and sec 3… hence it’s very important they that do real learning instead of scoring just for exam , they can remember better…
I have not much problem with my older child but my younger one is more sensitive hence I guess kids of this batch we parents have to spend more time to coach them…
