i taught my 2 sons maths from P1 to P6. It is possible to do it, but needs a good grasp of maths (and english too!) from the teaching parent. I do not think tuition is 100% good, dependent on your luck to match kid vs tuition teacher.

Yes, P5 Maths is really tough. My dd attended group tuition but frequently got stuck doing tuition homework especially other schools exam papers, very challenging.

Class size is rather huge so teacher couldn’t address every child & every question. Still need to be coach at home by dh on those sums she couldn’t solve.

Nevertheless, dh said it’s more manageable to coach this way. Rather than having 100% load on him to coach dd

            Dear all,

I swear by Onsponge. 🙂 I went through their parents' workshop and find their methodology very clear and easy to understand.
            Do they conduct parents' workshop?
Only saw the holiday workshop for kids on website

Yes. Usually at the beginning of the year. Go to their website and look out for the adverts.

Hi, I would think is possible to teach P4 maths ourselves.

Just to share with you DD maths at end of P3 was 80 marks and at the beginning of P4 CA1 dropped to 66 marks.

We immediately allocated almost 50% of time working on top school past year papers (head start before the SA1) and three month later she scored 82 for the SA1 followed by 95 on SA2.
Usually how soon before the sa1 do you start giving the exam papers, I was worried the child may not hv learnt the topic n may not be able to solve the question?

does it mean for the whole year the child just work on exam papers and no assessment bks for math?
i alwayz wonder shd i let her do exam pprs or assessment bks? i thot assessmt is to drill the basic concepts and exam pprs is to apply them? may not hv time to drill them both

I had worked with my students who were doing onsponge Math’s homework before SA2. The kids had problems understanding the methods used by onsponge. I had to teach them some easier methods of solving some of the qns. Yep, some of their methods used makes the students think that Maths is really difficult to do. Anyone has the same feeling?
