[Bukit Batok] Primary Schools
-
Hi, BonaFides
I think you should call up the school to find out. The notification letter should be sent to you in about 1 month after the registration date. Don't worry so much. I think it's just a matter of slight delay in sending the letter. But imho, you can always call up the school to find out & to have peace of mind. :))) -

I don't really see much comments on Bukit View Pri. My registered add is near Bt Batok MRT, however, I stay with the in-laws 4 to 5 days a week at Hillview as they help us take care children. Judging from the distance, Keming is not within the 1km, whereas BVPS is within 1km. And BVPS is not so \"hot\" as compared to Princess Elizabeth. However, I got my misgivings with single session school that BVPS is. And I am not sure if BVPS is a good sch. Cos good sch will be chase after by us, the parents. Looking at the balloting history, makes me wonder if BVPS have good teachers?
Please help. appreciate if can pm me <[email protected]> -

Since your registered address is near Bt Batok MRT, you will be registering your child via the caregiver route, right? If so, you will be in the 1-2 km category even though your in-laws' house is within 1 km from the school. -

I am only referring to schools in this thread (bukitbatok except for CHIJ which is near to Hillview Railmall side).
if you stay at Bukit Batok and is looking at PV, the only popular school accepting PV is Keming. If you want to try PV at Bukit Panjang Pri, you can see if you are within 1-2km using the hillview address because this year i heard that applying as Phase 2B exceeding 2km applicants some are risky.
if you stay at Bukit Batok and is a church goer eligible for Phase 2B, the one to go is St Anthony.
If you using your IL's hillview address and has a daughter, you can see if CHIJ is within distance to avoid balloting if you going for Phase 2C.
Princess E you need to stay within 1km to ballot for phase 2C. if you intend to join as Phase 2B, only possible via Grassroots.
Other schools left in order of popularity is Bukit View, Lianhua, Dazhong (relocating back in end 2012; currently at temporary premises) and HongKah. good or bad teachers aside, go look at the infrastructure, distance to your place, CCAs and school programmes available (and sch uniform, if you want
)
Good luck! -
Hi Jedama
my in-law’s house is at The Petals Condo, near the Bukit Batok area, not the railmail. Princess E is within the 1km using my address.
I would prefer Keming location very much but no so for Bukit View though these 2 schools are just a few stone away. In terms of infrastructure, CCAs and programmes, Keming stand out from BVPS. But come to real life, I don’t even have a chance to ballot within the 1km.
Seeing Princess E balloting history, makes me scare. If going for almost confirm place, BVPS seems to be the one. But I don’t really like BVPS, heard there’s quite a no. of Indians and Malays in BVPS compare to other school. In kiasuparents web, almost no comments on BVPS at all. Don’t know where to gather information about BVPS. School uniforms also yuck in the colour scheme.
So now, I don’t know how. To bet the chance next year or just settle for BVPS -
- Thought Dazhong Primary relocating back in end 2011 / beginning 2012?
- One thing good about Bukit View Primary uniform - black shoes! Another thing is don't need to buy separate PE t-shirts. Think use the same top for uniform?
If you are open to schools outside of Bukit Batok:
- Depends on which area of Bukit Batok you are in, you may be have a chance for Jurong Primary School. Some blocks in Bukit Batok are within 1km from Jurong Primary. The distance is measured by radius from school, not travelling distance. Do check the distance from http://www.onemap.sg.
- If you are attending Presbyterian churches, can try Pei Hwa Primary under Phase 2B (use IL's Hillview address).
- How about Bukit Timah Primary?
Do go visit school open house for a better feel of the schools - but normally in July / Aug. -
snowbee,
do remember that if you use your ILs address under the caregiver's route, you will be registered under the 1-2km bracket even if there is a school within 1km from their place.
the link (http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/bukit-batok) is not updated for 2011 registration, and i could not remember which schools had balloting within which registration bracket.
the only info i could get isphtthp:
you mentioned that Keming is out of reach.P2C Bukit Batok day 3 (29 July 2011)
vacancies, applicants
1\tPrincess Elizabeth\t53\t117
2\tKeming \t88\t135
3\tSt. Anthony\t101\t124
4\tBukit View\t134\t87
5\tLianhua \t142\t56
6\tDazhong \t128\t29
7\tHong Kah \t130\t12
your only best bet is to try balloting for Princess E.
however, if i remember correctly, BVPS has balloting for phase 2C supplementary (i can't remember for which distance bracket).
so you can either
1) go for 99%confirmed (unless next year's registration demand increases causing balloting) BVPS phase 2C (within 1km)
or
1) try ballot for Princess E
2) if unsuccessful for Princess E, you may need to ballot for BVPS in phase 2C supp
3) if unsuccessful for BVPS, do you have a backup plan?
if you don't have a backup plan for being balloted out for BVPS, and don't wanna risk going to other neighbourhood schools, you should just opt for BVPS.
what we like may not be what we can get in real life. so we gonna focus on what is available and make the best choice out of it.
another alternative is to look at Bukit Timah Primary school. check out your distance/IL's distance to BTPS to see your chances in phase 2C. -
