All About Delayed Speech
-
I am desperately looking for a speech therapist for my son. We have brought him for an assessment and he does have challenges with his speech. Its been difficult finding an experienced therapist to take him on.
Dose anyone have any recommendations -
You can try the different speech therapist schools, eg Leapfrogs, Kaleidoscope, Total Communication, Bumble Bee, Dynamics just to name a few.

Thanks for the recommendations.
Some of these schools were recommended to me too but the more experienced therapist are fully booked. No one plans to take in new pupils given its the end of the year and most have their schedules booked up. -

Put your child on waiting list first. Before you know it, his turn will be here. Thanks for the recommendations.

Some kids really need more time before they are really to talk. Continue to monitor and if u are really uneasy, then bring your child to poly clinic to get a referral to Child Guidance Clinic at HPB or KKH for a check up. -

Your son sounded like mine when he was this age. We decided
Enough of guessing and refused to guess. He was also not talking. We kind of forced him to tell us. eventually he did. But becoz we couldn’t understand his speech, we still had to go speech therapy. Maybe u can put him on waitlist for speech therapy since not all can get immediate appointments. -

i suspect my son has speech disorder too since certain words he couldn't prounce clearly, like cat in chinese, he said 'wow', & word like bus, he said barbie, which is rather strange to me...
i want to bring my son for speech therapy but not sure where to go.

Does yr child hv motor problems as well? Signs of motor problems would be general clumsiness, knocking onto people or things, or maybe even late in walking (eg 15 months or later). If yes, it is quite worrying esp with lack of pointing (which shows lack of joint attention). Motor skill problems and lack of joint attention are quite common in kids with ASD. -

He’s at kkh speech therapy. U can get a referral from polyclinic. The sessions that really helped him was the intensive weekly ones and we practiced everyday. After that he could pronounce better. Yes, u should also get him assessed becoz he isn’t pointing and not talking. My son has been given a prelimary assessment of high functioning autism. He has improved tremendously over the years so I think maybe he may just ‘fail’ the upcoming psychology test. We did all the speech and occupational therapies before we decided to send him in for further assessment. Early invention helps a lot becoz then u know exactly how to teach him to speak properly.
