We probably have to upgrade to a better tuition center when dd goes higher level. Chose that void deck tuition center for convenience because within walking distance

Dh can coach but he is so inconsistent, can go for weeks without touching on Maths. Cannot wait for him.

        Hi Janet,

Yes I might get that too for my P3,and visible thinking for the first term.
I have a problem this time. I saw Fabian Ng's P3 PSP book Its very thick. so might go for that new book . I have onsponge too. So I hope thats enough.
I think I will get that assessment for P2. Yes, Fabian Ng's PSP is super thick. Already bought 'visible thinking' and 'shaping maths'.

Son's math very weak...that's why switched to one-to-one.

            Janet,
The Shaping Maths is it the one by Marshall Cavendish? http://resource.marshallcavendish.com/mcdoc/console/DocumentDetail.aspx?viewType=catalogue&id=47522

Any good recommendations for heuristics ?? Thanks.

              1. Process skills I-Excel Heuristic and Model Approach.

I found both of them are good, manage to do the Fan Math and some of the pages from 2nd one. I didn have a chance of buying other books under Heuristics....

Since there is time before the 20% discount, can you kindly advise if Process Skills I-Excel is recommended ? I don't know what kind of heuristics will be taught at P2...only know the number of legs kind of question.

My son will be in P6 and spending more time in school with his suppl...as P2 will have SA2 streaming, I figure I will have more time 1-to-1 with my daughter. Your recommendations will be of great help. Thanks in advance.[/quote]I liked the way i-excel has classified when it was newly published and DD used the i-excel in p3/p4 and she liked it. However for p5/p6 she felt not upto mark.
I bought it for DS but did not use it much since he is in P1 now. Intend to use it next year. he likes the sticker part.

Problem Solving I used for P1 and found it useful. Will likely buy it for P2.

What is your opinion of 'visible thinking' or 'shaping maths'?

Must decide so that can use the Book fair to buy. I would not want to use more than 2 assessment books so have to choose wisely. Dunno if that will be enough, but difficult to get DS to sit and do 🤷

My DS tutor writes his own qns for my DS to do based on his weakness. I feel better than assessment book cause it is like tailoring just for DS. He says that saves DS time in doing qns he already knows. He says it is better to do 5 different qns which tests DS than doing 50 similar qns which does not require DS to think.

This is true. That's why if without tutors, we will have to sieve out the types of questions our kids are weak in. 😄

                    hi all

i brought the conquer maths from my boy's school bookshop. it is a \"must\" for his class. I understand the book is used for the best 2 classes in Pri 3. They used it as part of the lessons. I am not good in maths but i find it v difficult. My hubby is the maths tutor for my boy said that the book is more for stimulating the kids to think..
My colleague bought this via their website and they charge a delivery fee...can't remb how much but I remb it is not a big sum.
Oh, then i shall hold on to it 1st to see whether my girl get into top 3 classes next year (slim chance) :xedfingers: as her school has top 3 than the rest will be random. :rotflmao: If so, i can just get from the school bookshop.

For me the visible thinking is a must have one. how do you rate shaping maths for P3? is it good? I found it similar to my pals..

                        Hi plum-cake,

I have been buying "shaping maths" every year since son started p1…doing the same for my daughter. However, with the shift towards non-routine questions, I have to get asessment for heuristic & models as well. Based on this year’s experience, I realise I have to get assessment books for tests in may, august and Oct (SA2) for p2.

P5 maths has 2 sections - section A & B cannot use calculator. Section C can use calculator and some questions can be 4 or 5 marks each. Section which doesn’t allow calculator will be tested first. Then after collecting the paper, the other section will start after a break.
