      Sahimi:
      vocabulary cloze

My elder boy reads a lot of fiction books. He does not hv much prob with this section.

I met a girl who is P5 this year, same sch as my elder boy. They used to train under the same badminton coach. She told me her EL teacher advised them to read for the way the author writes the sentences, to pay attention to synthesis and transformation. Seems like reading cannot be solely for pleasure.

Is sad that my boy is not good in languages although he reads alot of books.
A teacher told me before, this is very common because the kids tend to get engrosed on the storyline of the books and not taking note on the vocab, grammer etc. The best thing to read are those boring stuffs like newspaper articles, nat geo magazine, reader digest. There are many things to do after reading and not just read and full stop.

From my understanding, the schools would calculate and let you know the prelim scores, of course its not T-scores. But not all schools would do that. And a few colleagues told me, based on the prelim scores, add between 15 to 20 marks, that can roughly be your PSLE T-scores. Of course, all these are just \"aunties\" lunch time talk. For these \"aunties\" children's history, seem to be proven quite accurate. For my girl, PSLE T-scores is abt 23 marks higher than prelim. 😄 😄 BUT I am not aunty. Hahaha ..... 😉 😉

Wowww!!! So u mean if your girl's T-score in prelim for example was 250, your girl got 273 in PSLE? Thats great!!!

I think it depends on how tough the school prelim papers are in comparison to the actual PSLE paper and of course how the cohort does ...

My girl’s PSLE result was also 20+ more than her prelim result. She worked very hard after the prelim test because of this unexpected poor result gave her a shock!!

Both of my girl and daisyt’s girl were from schools of 福建会馆, they use the same prelim paper for all the 5 schools.

I guess the difference between the Prelim and PSLE marks also depends on the standards that the individual school sets for it’s Prelim papers. Some deliberately set very difficult papers to "push the kids" and hence the actual PSLE results can be 20+ more whereas for other schools, the difference can be only like 5+.

It would be nice if the school can collate data (like what anxiousmum’s school does), so the children can roughly gauge what results to expect for PSLE. Still, it is of limited use since it really depends on the children’s performance on the actual PSLE days.

Whatever it is, just ask the children to do their best and Good Luck to all the children sitting for PSLE this year!

                        Hi,
sorry I don't have the info.

Today is the first day of PSLE, right? All the best to all the PSLE kids, wish they can do their best!
