              If yes, then the model can be

              Ali : XXX
              bala: X
              Total = 48.
              therefore 4X = 48.
              X =12

                  how to do this?

                  Ali has 3 times as many marbles as Bala. After Ali lost 4 marbles and gave some marbles to Bala,, the two boys now have the same number of marbles.
                  Bala has 22 marbles now. How many marbles does Bala have at first?

                  Henry park 2010 SA2 Q44 πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

                  DD1 works without drawing the model but get the answer as Bala had 12 marbles at 1st. Acceptable?

                    Should be acceptable. I think this question is easier to be solved without model.

                      Boxes P and Q contain 356 green apples and 376 red apples. There are 12 more red apples than green apples in box P. How many fewer green apples than red apples are there in box Q?

                        Totally 20 more red apples than green apples.
                        In P,12 more red apples than green apples.
                        so In Q,(20-12)=8 red apples more than green apples.
                        In other words 8 green apples fewer than red apples in box Q.
