As I had mentioned before, I think the police should tell the media not to sensationalise the suicides. Doing so might result in copycat behaviour among those suffering from depression.

in the old old days, suicide cases were hardly mentioned in mainstream media unless is a sensational case, to avoid copycat behavior

in recent years, with internet around, it is hard to avoid publicity, for example people around bedok reservoir road may have seen the police search action, take photos and stomp it, and will post to internet and call the press

what they should do is for every case of suicide news, they must have an article to educate against suicide side by side with the news

                        This is from ST:

The body of an Indian male was retrieved by officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) from Bedok Reservoir early on Monday morning.

Police had received a call at about 8.35am, informing them of a body floating in the reservoir.

SCDF officers found a body floating near the shore when they arrived shortly after. The male casualty was pronounced dead by a SCDF paramedic at 9.22am. The deceased is believed to be Indian construction worker Raman Selvam, 33.

He had been missing since Saturday and was last seen walking into the reservoir on Saturday afternoon. Eyewitnesses said the man refused help from passers-by who had tried to throw him a life buoy.
