Actually the levy is not an issue, you get the $170 back from tax relief. Mummies, you are not aware? You get it back when you file for tax relief. Normally you get relief from your earned income. It's $4080 for 2 years. It seems like some of may not be claiming for this, that's why you raise the alarm. Go check out and make sure u claim for it.

I think I did claim for this...but I rather not come out with the $ on a monthly basis...and I do not need to pay any income tax for now...so the relief doesnt have an impact on me.

haiz…whenever tried to think of the pathetic peanuts benefit our govt give to entice people to give birth to more children, want to vomit!

so many couple wants to give birth to another kids but because of all the logistics (who to take care), maids, not much support issues, have to hold back that is why need to "import" citizenships from other countries. yeh…i think this topic has been mentioned sometimes before! maybe…maybe…i should seriously think of packing and leave sg for good…to settle in my kids’ birth country for all the benefits …hehehe

yes, it is for working mother and those who need to pay tax. Furthermore, a year we got to pay $170.00 x 12 mth = $2040. The tax rebate is $2040 x 2 (double) = $4080.00. Perosnal income tax rate about 5.5%, so, the actual rebate is $4080 x 5% = $204.00. In this case, the actual payable for FWL = $2040 - $204 = $1836. You still have to pay $1836.

rebate is not the same as relief

I thought the fathers also can claim for the relief even if wife is not working? You are actually taxed less, with the relief. Without the relief you will be taxed more. Of course if the gov’t can just forgo everything that would be the best. Most singaporeans are just waiting around for someone else to start something. Even with the 16 maid agencies gotten fine, I bet their biz is still roaring. Afterall now supply is dwindling.

FWL relief is only available to working mother with taxable income

The objective of the FWL relief is to encourage mothers to return to work force....but it is really miserable ....$4080 x marginal income tax rate

I remember seeing the HK people marching in the streets supporting the maid’s PR. wonder what would happen if we start marching, would the S’pore gov’t locked us up?
