Shichida Right Brain Training - Discussion
-
At Tensai in KL (where we're based), there are 2 groups of linking memory sheets: larger cards for 2-year old and smaller cards (with CD narration) for older children. My 2.5 years old is doing the smaller cards, 10 at a time. He loves doing LM a lot. I think it helps develop his memory and language skills very well. For 5-6 year old, you can use the same set too. When completed, you'd need to start making your own cards or exchange with other parents.
@ pinkiepirate: Keep doing home practice, it'd all be worth it by the time your boy goes to Primary School. For me, I'm motivated that with at least photographic memory and speed reading skills, my boy would be able to learn efficiently and spend a lot of time on his areas of interest, and enjoy his life. When he works, the same efficiency will enable him to have a good work-life balance. Feel free to read my blog posts on our home practice at http://www.mummysreviews.com/2011/09/16/developmental-milestones-vee-30-months-old/ -
MieVee - hello! nice to "meet you". Yes, we are a serious Shichida family! We have been applying the method since Ryan was about 8-9 months old, and it works for us, with great results. I will visit your blog -thanks for sharing!

Great! I just read many of your posts. Our boys are about the same age, mine's Feb, yours is Jan. Exactly... Shichida parents who do home practice will really see the benefits. And I agree with what you mentioned on a post: the method's core is on the parents and SM is indeed a parenting philosophy (I mentioned this in a blog post too! Ha!)
\"See\" you around!

Hi MieVee, oh itβs so nice to meet a parent who understands that the method is about how we parent. As for home practice, too often I get people complaining that the parents must do home practice - I always tell them itβs the same as learning any other skill, like playing the piano - you have to practice and practice and practice, and the child cannot do it by himself.
I note you are based in KL - would you like anything from Singapore - we are travelling back to KL next week. Would be no trouble to help you get anything you need from here. -

You're too kind!
My baby #2's arriving in about 4 weeks, so we've sort of gotten everything needed. Haha, reliving the excitement again.
(Be safe driving in KL. Already 2 robbery cases within my circle recently. 1 ended quite badly. Make sure handbag is out of sight, esp when stuck in traffic jam.)
And my observation on home practice: only a small minority of Shichida parents do it consistently, and over many years. The rest are simply too eager to see results, then give up when they don't see any. The thing is every child blossoms at a different age and we parents just need to keep guiding him/her. And the real pleasure comes in seeing the child's amazing abilities when we aren't expecting any.

Yes, Shichida is not an easy discipline. But good things don't come easy! I was hoping to find some mummies here who are enthusiastic about Shichida so that we can support and motivate each other, but seems not many leh. -

There're only a handful who are enthusiastic and only a small portion of us in this forum, so very hard to find. Tried joining Shichida's parents volunteer group? I think the \"serious\" practicing parents are there.

So far, I've a circle of 3 other parents really into right brain education. 2 from Shichida, 1 with Heguru & Tweedlewink. We exchange flashcards and materials to save each other's time. 5-year old daughter of one of them is showing very excellent output, so the effort certainly pays off.
During this pregnancy, there're days or weeks when I'm tired and don't feel like doing any home practice. After a break, I pick up momentum again cos son asks for his \"class\"! I'm glad he enjoys home practice so much.
If you've soft copy of homemade flashcards & materials, we can exchange too. Just drop me a mail at http://www.mummysreviews.com/contact-me/
