It is? Oh I thought Nan Hua is but Pei Hwa is not  :nailbite:
PHPPS should be a GEP centre -

PHPPS should be a GEP centre
They tried hard to get GEP into the school 10years ago - but failed.
So high number 80+! and non GE centre, no wonder school scared lose all the top students, so no school bus support for you hahaSnow Crystal:

I think we chat on more non-academic stuff

We are really more like a parents social support group .. just that we do it online
:nailbite:
Reason: Too many GEP schools in Bukit Timah area. There is NYPS and RGPS. Near Clementi side there is NHPS and lower Bukit Timah, there is ACPS. So no chance. -
Snow Crystal:
Pei Hwa is definitely NOT a GEP center. There are only 9:

yup, I said it should be ⦠because it is not (yet!)

Atan:
If I'm not wrong, this year whole school approx 35% cleared Round 1. Probably about one-third of these will clear Round 2 (just guess oni hor....)...???
verykiasu2010, you are referring to NY? This year should be more than 30%.verykiasu2010:
last time during my DS' year of GEP screening, his class has 32 out of 39 cleared round one, whole school approx 30% cleared round 1
may not be the same every year
they do the round 2 test at home ground

Oh didn't know abt Pei Hwa history. Yes going by the number of kids gg round 2, definitely qualify. I am sure there are GE centers with lower number/percentage. -
Snow Crystal:
but qualifying for round 2 does not equal to getting selected for the GE programverykiasu2010:

what is the actual number who actually qualify for GE ?
but PHPPS actually has been consistently producing good results
it shows that their system and processes are robust and is not totally dependent on any celebrity teacher in any specific year. teachers can come and go year in year out but the school still produces good results
it speaks volume
that is why i thought is should be a GE centre , but obviously MOE has other criteria -

what is the actual number who actually qualify for GE ?
I was thinking since the 9 GEP schools could cater to the selected 500, there's no justification for PH to open GEP classes. I wish it would though. Furthermore, those selected after round 2 were less than a class in the past, not sure whether the nos will increase over time. However, if more and more kids choose to stay back, maybe MOE can reconsider making PH a GEP centre.

besides headcount in terms of students who qualify, MOE must also take into account the number of GE-trained teachers available x number of subjects, human resources to man an GE centre
I think it is a mammoth task to set up one GE centre
