I'm on the fence about immigration, but at times it seems that the more immigrants we welcome, the more we need to welcome even more immigrants to serve the current immigrants.
Not sure if that makes sense.

It is NOTHING TO DO with foreign staff is cheaper (which is not true).
Singaporeans, the younger they are, the more they cannot perform. Most cannot take a bit of hardship perhaps due to their spoilt and squared brains.

I don't know what kind of working force our Ah Gong is breeding and raising.
I literally despise Singaporeans in general when work is concerned.
Throw stones at me if you want but that's my 100% honest sentiment.
So, the problem is not the foreign talents/labour. The problem is Ah Gong must find a way to raise a tougher work force instead of the current strawberry type workers to make bosses like me more willing to employ Singaporeans...
as an example, the last few years have seen the issue of HDB property not meeting the demand, and the new minister has promptly ramped up the new flats to be constructed. this has resulted in a massive shortage of workers. do people realise that ? while throwing stones at PAP for not anticipating the demand, do they realise how much this has caused the cost to rise ?
the construction of HDB flats have caused other private project cost to skyrocket ..... the inflation as a result of this rising cost is going to hit everyone in singapore real soon
I talked to a construction firm doing something for me today - shocking - people are snatching workers and giving them 100% increase just to go over to the next boss in an instant to get started. scaffolding workers used to be paid cash $100 per day are now being paid $200 per day. any citizen want the job ? $200 x 20 days = $4000 per month, 9am to 5 pm, very senang job.......c'mon, anyone ??
Now, I really feel darn stoopid...
Anyways, as I put it forth, the Australian model in part is happening in SG... Lacking the benefits to SGporeans tho... -

To me having a foreigner to fill in as admin assistant is really so much about foreign \"talent\".
Today, the use of foreign talent is too loosely interpreted. If it is truly talent, then of course i will be obliging and accept it. But a superficial \"talent\", of which i cannot accept. -

Look at the ROOT cause of the problem..
And, before you defend the employers and talk abt how difficult it is to run biz etc.. why don't you ask yourself, given that pay offered, and if you were in that position (qualification/skill/experience), will you take up the job? if no, then don't expect other citizens to accept it.
Also, I don't believe biz is not viable or cannot survive of employee citizens while maintaining prices.. it is just less profits..
And, for your last example, where is the advert? So tempting even for degree holders.. -

Have to agree with you that it is an undesirable consequence. However, I believe you are not saying this is caused by the people who need to build a family and need a roof over their heads right? Isn't the demand also due to the influx of foreigners and people taking flats up as a form of investment? They could jolly well be owners of several bungalows and/or condos already. I think what most people are saying is that the policies be reviewed and administered, since most of us have given our trusts to the 'planners'. If such inflation is to result, it only goes to show the lack of planning and coordination within the various departments, wouldn't you say so? -

Insider, I faced the same problem as you did in employing local staff, especially graduates. The higher educated they are, the worse it gets, because too much of what they say is off the books. They can tell you so much - on and off the text books, but ultimately, it isn't THEIR OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE - it is someone else's. Actually quite sad for me to think and say that the future is bleak for Singapore coz we are unable to produce a quality workforce despite whatever academic excellence that many are celebrating for empty reasons...
In certain jobs, you need to 'get things done' more than you do talking. Yeah, sometimes, what they say sound logical, but when it comes to getting things done, experience and having the right attitude over-rides the papers they have. It really depends on the kind of work that the graduates are applying for. Ultimately, it won't be hard to find them all ending up in the public sector (no offense to you if you are in the public sector) But perhaps this is what is happening to Singapore right now - the result of having people with little or no practical experience doing the planning and recommendations?
