i3 intel or AMD processor
-
Hi IT experts out there, pls advise. Need to buy a notebook below $800. Small budget so can’t afford i5 or i7. Between i3 and AMD which one is faster. Not for gaming. Mainly for my business travel. Hence need light notebook that doesn’t cost that much. Somehow for work purposes but can’t claim, unwilling to spend more.
TIA -
which range of AMD CPU and which core i3 CPU?

if you want ease of support, I would recommend Dell notebooks. If there’s anything wrong, they will come to your house in the next business day and replace the parts. For all other manufacturers, you’ll need to bring it down to their service center, which means taking leave on a workday. If you’re staying far away from the service center, it would be an inconvenience, as it would mean making 2 trips.
Frankly there won’t be much difference between notebooks in the $800 class, either I3 or AMD cpu will do. You’ll only see the difference in the benchmark tests and even then, there’s not a big difference there. In practical use, you won’t notice a difference.
Ease of support should be the major criteria for notebook selection. All notebooks breakdown at some point or other, so good support is critical. Pay more for the extended warranty, you will be sure to use it. These days, there’s a lot of cost cutting in the parts, so things don’t last as long. -

That's exactly why I've been recommending Dell for the past 2 years! -

I thought i3 is quite old and to be phased out ?
an i5 pc/notebook could be had at less than $1000
just bought a notebook i5-2410, 8GB ram, 750GB HDD…$1000 -

screen is smaller at 13.3\", less than 2 kg bcos DVD drive is external (suits me well bcos i seldom use it), hence very slim
battery can last 4 to 8 hours depending on usage -
Hi
If time is not an issue, you can always wait for the next pc fair that is coming up December. i5 will usually sells around $699. My husband has been shopping Toshiba for his clients for the last few pc shows. Dell unit is also quite nice except the price is always fixed. If you are a business traveler, try go for the U series of Lenovo. It is light, speed quite reasonable and under $1000
