English Assessment Books

Hi mummies,
Anyone bought rosemary Allen's graphic stimulus comprehension cloze? My son asked me to get it to improve his graphic stimulus but don't think those practices in assessment are as good as real life scenarios in past year papers. But he is weak in that section. How? :nailbite: -
Well, I haven't bought it yet. Planning to get it from next year as many parents are recommending it.
My DD is in P1 this year..so I am not experienced in purchasing assessment books as some of the mummies here..
Thats why I frequently visit KSP website to get clues to good assessment and guide books

Buying assessment books is really a skill

I usually do this... For practices, I will let my dd do those found in assessment books. When it is nearing exams, she will do exam papers only as the format will be somewhat the same as what they get in their school papers. I usually download past year papers, save them in my external HDD and will only print sections which she is weak in.Hi mummies,

I think I'll give Graphic Stimulus Comprehension a miss.
Just remembered neighbour gave me all the P6 past year papers...will just pull out all the graphic stimulus & synthesis for him to practise...objective is to drill the weak areas before next Monday's EL Paper II...and the rest is

Guess P6 - they do not have much time to do assessment books...
This morning just look into the Graphic Stimulus book - DD1 has managed to complete 3/4 of the book so might consider to get the P4 one during the 20% discount voucher period
I will avoid the book fest as I do not like crowd

Agree with you...the crowd even on first day of bookfest is scary.janet_lee88:

That's why I avoid weekends at all cost...actually I have a phobia for crowd...but want to utilize the rebate stickers.
Planning to get these books during 20%: P2 Graphic Stimulus

I think the Graphic Stimulus Comprehension, in the EPH Challenging English Books, P4, P5 and P6 are fantastic. The only downside, not enough inference questions, they are mostly of the "literal" type.

You can say that again...when my son was in P1, I could cry not knowing what to get. Then I started to go to Popular more often to learn :frustrated: and the staff there thought I am a tutor
always buying assessment for my students. Even now, I still have a problem buying appropriate assessment for my kids, esp the younger one in P1.
When there are so many authors as well as new ones in the market, it makes it even harder. Now I get recommendations from other mummies here
or my back will kill me after all the standing and kneeling.
