We also wanted to clarify if this supp form will have a column to declare if your current residential address is rental or own?
If there is, will it affect our balloting chances in the end?
We are deeply concerned as we are seriously considering to move within 1km to SCGS (obviously for Y2012 P1 registration purpose) but do not want to be sidelined in case we are only considering rental basis.
TIA -
why not you call up the school you’re interested in directly or write in to ask - confirm if by filling up this part / section, will rental parents be sidelined & priority thus given to residential parents, in the event of over subscription during balloting? Ask the school explicity - what they going to do with the information disclosed ?
if the answer is No - but just to gather & collect statistics for the next 3 to 5 years before school or MOE plan next step, meantime all are given same equal priority, then at least you feel relieved!
but if the answer is Yes, even though the truth hurts, then need to think of alternative. -

My girl was in phase 2C and we filled the form during registration i.e. before we knew if we were successful.

I doubt you’ll be sidelined just because you rent a place near the school because the process is transparent. Basically, you will be categorised according to your home distant i.e. within 1km, 1-2km or outside 2km (regardless of renting or owning). In the event, there is balloting say within 1km, you’ll automatically qualify. The balloting process is transparent (Singaporean will get 2 slips and PR 1) and you are allowed to witness the entire process. I don’t think it is possible for the person drawing the lots to differentiate between renting and owing cos it’s not indicated on the balloting slip e.g. use different colour slip) right? I believe the purpose of the supp form is more for MOE analysis purposes? -
Thanks phtthp,
We did asked the school SCGS but was not given a very clear answer. They will only say that address in NRIC will be accounted for.
In case answer is YES, then we would have no option but to really seriously consider investing in a unit within 1km from SCGS as our home there. -
Thanks floyap
Your answer really clear our doubt

Hi,
my son will be turning 7 in 2014 - I’m in a dilemma as to which school to register him at. We live at Upper Thomson, and the schools nearest to us would be:
1) Ai Tong (about 500km away) - I do not want to register him here as he is of mixed race, and this school is very chinese, moreover, we would prefer him in an all boys or catholic/mission school
2) Catholic high (about 3 to 4km) - but i’ve heard even if you stay next to the school you still need to ballot
3) SJI Junior (about 4 to 5km) - I’ve heard the chances are better here in recent years, even if you stay more than 2km away
I intend to register him at SJIJ. As I’m aware, we qualify for Phase 2B as I’m Catholic (my son is not), we just need to produce Baptism cert to qualify. The things is, we live more than 2km away - do we still stand a chance of getting a ballot slot?
What are my alternatives if I do not get a ballot slot at 2B? Should I try at SJIJ for 2C since I live more than 2km away? Or just go to another school for 2C? If I’m looking at an all boy’s Catholic school, which would be my best bet for 2C if I live at Upper Thomson?
Would appreciate all advice! Thanks very much in advance. -
hi lynettewoo
Since you prefer an all boys / catholic school, SJIJ will be a \"safer\" choice as compare to Catholic High. To me, to apply for Catholic High is something like a suicide, chances really not high.
But then, if you register under SJIJ for Phrase 2B, you will also need to go through the ballet process as you are staying more than 2km. so it is also not a guarantee that you will get into the school. As for Phrase 2C, you do not even have a chance to register as statistics have proven balloting is required for 1 to 2km and this year, it is within 1km as there are more and more new residential homes near SJIJ. (Thanks to KSP website that I know the procedures of P1 registering well
And I foresee, once SJIJ at the current Essex site re-open in mid 2013, more parents will apply to it cause school will be new and have more facilities. Do you have any backup plans? Have to start planning, it is good to be KS on this

Yes, that's what I thought too - that SJIJ would be a better choice. I was thinking of trying at 2B - any idea of the statistics for this year? Were there ballot slots for more than 4km under 2B?
If I fail at 2B for SJIJ, I was thinking of St Gabriel's at 2C -- any recommendations for All Boys or Catholic, Mission school at 2C? -
How about Maris Stella?
Though St Gabriel’s is a surer bet at phase 2B since it didn’t need balloting in the past years.
