Where to buy 卫斯理 (Detective Wesley) books in Singapore?
-
Pen88n:
Yes you are right. They also earn $5 dollar service charge per order.
Peeka is earning from the courier charges + a little of the exchange rate. I supposed when they order more from Taobao and Dangdang, they may also accumulate points for their use. All this will add up to their bottomline.tamarind:
Hi larkspur,
Peeka must place the order for us at dangdang, we cannot place the order ourselves. Actually many people face problems ordering at dangdang website, peeka website makes it a lot easier, no credit card needed. -
Hi markch,
How I wish my hubby is like you. There is no way he will read Chinese novels on his own to improve his Chinese. He would rather read the English version of the original 西游记.markfch:
Thanks Pen88n. I'm sure you'll get your books before me. I found out that I still have to submit (physically) the Internet banking application form before I can do the bank transfer to Peeka.Pen88n:
markfch,
The book set (10 books per set) for 卫斯理 is usually out of stock from Dangdang, and the individual books are higher price. Btw, compared with buying from Singapore bookstore, online ordering is much cheaper, easily 30-40% off at least! I'm trying to get from Taobao via Peeka (thanks to Tamarind for introducing Peeka) - not sure how successful yet.....will inform you if it works out fine and I get my books!
You know, I've never read a Chinese book outside of text in my entire life ...... until I became a dad and found out that I've to teach my son Chinese. Never in my life would I expect that one day I'll order a stack of Chinese novels for my reading pleasure & in order to improve my language skill.

The series of books are interesting and I just check my collection and realize that we have purchased total 24 books from local as well as dangdang during the this year book fair as well as from dangdang.
寻梦 is one of the wonderful novels that I still like to read even after several years. -
Brenda10:
24 books? That is nearly the entire set - 30 books. I am still contemplating should I just buy the 30 books set, or should I start with just the 10 books 1st set, then continue to buy the 2nd and 3rd set. Very tempting to buy the entire 30 books set (price is about $70+ exclude courier charges) but DH will no doubt nag about it again.markfch:

I get the 1st book 老猫 for DD to try and she loves it so I slowly get in the rest.
The price that you quoted is very attractive and is impossible to pay this amount if buy from the local. -
Hi Pen88n,
Personally I will not spend that much on a taobao seller unless the seller has many good customer reviews, otherwise it is risky. Can you share the link ?Pen88n:

I've not bought the 30 books set yet. I'm now looking at the 1st set of 10 books only. Probably will get the 2nd and 3rd set if DS is really interested. For myself, I'm ok with reading the traditional Chinese version fron NLB.
If you are interested, here is the link for the 30 books set:

I don’t plan to buy the whole series cos no place to store them…but if anyone buying I don’t mind sharing half, 1/4 etc…and can still read the books and get to keep 1/4, 1/2 etc…of the books. I have read some and don’t mind re-reading.

The 10 books set works out to be <$30 without courier charges. Adding in the charges, I would expect to pay ~$4-$5 per book, which is still less than what I would have to pay if bought locally.
Everytime I get online to start buying from Dangdang (previously), everything looks so attractive and will end up burning a hole in my pocket again.
This round considered as their Christmas presents

Hi Pen88n,
OK.
To others who are keen to buy from taobao,
That page belongs to an individual seller, not a company. Personally I feel it is safer to buy from big bookshops like this :
