I will be very disappointed if the school scrape away the catering scheme. The staggered recess would mean that when all the P1 to P3 have their breaks the older boys would be still studying, wouldn’t the boys be disturbed by the noise and vice versa when the older boys have their breaks, the younger boys will be too distracted to concentrate? Some younger boys like to join their older brothers in activities like basketball, badminton during recess but with staggered recess they no longer able to do that. I am quite sure the younger boys will spend their money buying drinks and snacks instead of proper food. With the exisiting catering scheme, the boys already can’t wait to go out and play but because there are teachers and PV in the class to ensure they finish their food, no matter how, they will 乖乖 eat some food.

You will be surprised, the smaller built boys in my ds2’s class are actually the fiercer ones, they chase, pull and punch each other. Wherelse the bigger built boys don’t really bother, they will go out and play. You need to constantly remind your boy not to join them in their naughty acts and they will leave your son alone. Boys would be boys, they will be naughty and will be rowdy but afterall at P1 they cannot be that bad anyway. As for the older boys, just teach you little boy to recognise their badge colour and name, report to the teacher immediately to stop these bullies.

            cherrygal:
Can we all send in our petition to bring the catered food scheme back? Who to send to?

I think catered food is good but the school should change the caterer. If you have seen what your boys are getting for the catered food, it is very miserable and definitely not value for $$. They get bread buns (like those you can get from bakeries), hot dogs, nuggets, etc... I thought the MOH has been encouraging healthy food in school but there is hardly any veg in the kids' food, the very most is a miserable slice of cucumber. Most kids do not like veg but we should not let them have the idea that it's ok not to eat by not offering to them. Too often our kids get processed food and I don't think it should be further encouraged in school. There was once where the caterer gave utensils that has mould growing on them!!!

I think the children can still have catered food but in the canteen. In that way, they can have better food like fish ball/wanton noodles, spaghetti, fried rice etc.

that reminds me, cant the canteen owners cater food to the kids?

              at least its fresher.
mould on utensils?? thatt means they used very old disposable wares.
by the way i noticed the canteen has disposable fork and spoons
does that mean the canteen has NO real fork and spoons? dont like disposable ones as they may break.

I think the canteen is also run by the same caterer. Maybe due to no competition, I never find the food in the canteen appetizing and it is expensive. My daughter can survive with $2 allowance a day for recess & lunch but one meal at Maris Stella is almost $2. Also don’t remember seeing real fork & spoons in the canteen.

If food is that bad and expensive, then we might as well invest in some good thermal lunchbox. Only thing is, it’s very troublesome to wake up early to cook for them!

Think instead of a petition to reinstate the catering, we should petition for a change in caterer or have at least 2 vendors to induce competion. Hopefully a better nutritional menu will be introduced.
