I believe the grading system is trying to \"encourage\" students with an average standard (i.e. those that get B grade) to work abit harder to get A grade instead. Otherwise, he/she will be penalised if he get B grade. In any system, it is either a stick or a carrot. In this case, it is a stick. The students get a \"stick if he get B instead of worker harder to get A.

Yes, we do understand \"the rational\" for doing so,
but encourage shd not be equal to penalise........ 😉

Btw, base on last year's experience, when do we know the posting results of subject-combi and get the booklist for Y3?
based on last yr, the timing shd be towards end of Nov.
pupils can check from DHS mail, it will show the whole list of pupils' name with subjects offered.

The system may nudge the upper B grade students to work abit harder. However, lower B grade or C grade students may feel that there isn't much incentive to improve. An improvement from C to B grade don't get the supposed GPA imrpovement. This may be a con side of this system.

Yes, the maths paper was indeed a tough paper,
Heard gal mentioned the day when she reached home,
now, still waiting for her to come bk to update me.......

Fail in any subj will drastically pulled down the overall GPA,
a D grade will have a GPA of only 1.0

U can email the subj teacher if u wanna feedback with regards to the results of yr child,
But i have never tried before.......think they will entertain.....

I have no idea abt HMTL tuition esp for DHS HCL...
Ya, gal said many pupils could not get good grades for HCL ,
even those who are very good in their chinese( those who came fr SAP pri sch).

DHS HCL is def higher std than most of the sec sch......
I ever tried giving my gal an O level paper to do certain components,
she could score better than the school test/exam paper.
As for this EOY HCL paper, gal said that the summary writing was different fr the usual practice,
i have yet to see what went wrong ....

Ya, every subject seems so difficult...even now only in sec 2.....more to come....

If students score below B4 for the 2 languages, do they have to retain?

                      Hi all, need your advice.

My DS is not sure to take 4 H2 or 3 H2 next year.

Is it true that student with 4 H2 will stand a better chance to apply for scholarship?

                        Hi Augmum,

how are you? i have not been following the thread…is nothing2do still active?

anyway from next year onwards, our kids’ grade will be L1R5… that means at least one humanities is required for computation of score. my DD says that many of her friends are thinking of going for 2 sci and 2 humanities now…did your dd tell you anything like this?

wonder if there will be 13 triple sci classes next year…
