I haven't signed up for science enrichment, maybe won't, but I have heard of some camps and activities that are good for general science interest. Not the Pr sch syllabus type. (I prefer to leave the science teaching to the school and just bring my kids for the general nature/ science appreciation stuff, like nature walks)
Eg. Raffles Museum of NUS will organize workshops every school holiday.

Nature Society of Singapore also. Used to be a member in the past.

NParks has many programmes at all the different parks available for sign up, including the Jacob Ballas Garden.

(scroll down for the activities for individuals)
The Wallace Dairy Farm nature park area has workshops for older kids. Very good.
Sungei Buloh has naturalist camps every holiday too.
This group Cicada also organize a lot of workshops for the entire family.

Apart from these, there is the Discovery Science Camp, also held every school hol. And the Lego Workshops by Children Technology, and several other science camps that I can't remember the full names of, cos they were too expensive for me to fully register them in my mind. Camp Invention or something.

Hi all, my gal is also in p2 now. Heard from many parents that p1 and 2 are honeymoon years and from p3 onwards, it will be significantly different. Find it stressfulโฆ Btw, anyone care to share their views on gifted program?

Hi codylian,
First of all welcome you to KSP forum :rahrah: ...
Since your dd is now in p2, I presume you are concerning abt next yr p3 gep screening test...
In my opinion, we parents know our kids best which means, we should know quite well whether they are academically gifted or higher ability then many other kids of the same age...if they are naturally gifted definitely the gifted education program will further stretch and nurture them ...
..
Understand, you are sourcing for Maths tuition class for your dd. If you are considering Mindstretcher, maybe you would like to consider their bishan branch as it is their head office and hear say is better ...( correct me if I am wrong other parents

Hi councillor, thanks! Actually, I am confused in my thoughts. On one hand, I have an ex-colleague, whose daughter is a top student and he didnโt even let her go for the Gep test as he thinks that gep will deprive his kid of a balanced childhood. On the other hand, I also agree with u that such program would further stretch the kid. So, I am not sure myselfโฆ

Emmm... My nickname is Vlim .. And u can call me Vlim.
Well it depend how the parent look at the program. I would day most gifted kids would have no problem going through the Ge program and in fact if u were to go to ' all about gep' thread, u will realize tt actually these kids enjoy it . But nevertheless there are a few who find it hard to cope.... So I would say don't be too stress over this gep thing, if a kid can make it, she will make it otherwise she can also shine in mainstream... -
K, thanks again, vlim!

Let your child take the tests, then at least you know where he/she stands, even if it is just to get through the first stage. Some schools put the kids who pass 1st stage into e higher ability classes for P4. Also, I let my daughter decide. She got into the GEP but decided not to take it up because she liked her school and did not want to transfer. She is in Sec 3 in a top school and got an academic performance award last year, so it seems some kids will stretch themselves anyway, GEP or not.codylian:
