Actually, this is what ds wanted. He wants to see the chick hatching from the egg. But how do you keep the egg at the optimal temp for growth? Where can I get the egg or chick in Spore?Chicks are so cute - if only they don't grow up. Keeping chick is fun. Hatching chick is even more fun. Did it for my kids long time ago. It was a great science lesson :
1. seeing the embryo moving by shining a torchlight from the other side of the eggs
2. the importance of turning the egg everyday
3. never to help the chick to break the shell
4. not knowing what to do when they become cockerels and crow at 5 am every morning without fail. -

I picked from the market, one of those styroforam boxes (with cover). Cut small holes at the sides. My DH installed a bulb inside and we covered it. Then we measure the temperature after about 15 min. It will go way above 40 degree. We slided open the cover a little by little and repeated the temperature taking until the temperature is about 39 to 40 degree - I think (can google for optimal temperature). In another word, the temperature control is achieved by adjusting the opening of the cover.

Remember to put a dish of water inside or the egg will crack (too dry) and to turn the eggs twice a day especially when the chick is quite big inside or it will get stuck to the shell.
I got the eggs from my relatives living in Malaysia. I think it is difficultto find such eggs here. Last time, the Quail farm in Lim Chu Kang might have but since the bird flu, I have not visited it. It is a nice experience but must be prepared on what to do when they become hen and cockerel. -
