Parents whose children are under the care of MFS, how do you find the progress of your child? Will the child be well prepared to enter the primary school? Is spelling provided for their K1/K2 kids?

Nope. For sure MFS is not academic oriented preschool ctr. They are practicing learn thru play method. I don't think their curriculum is adequate to prepare kids for P1 but I think most importantly, kids must enjoy in the school. My dd1 is now K2 and she enjoyed the school very much. Anyway i hv enrolled her in some enrichment classes for her P1 preparation.

May I ask is your child all the while in MFS? I am wondering whether they learn anything there?

What enrichment classes did you sign up for your dd’s P1 preparation?

          Thanks!

SINGAPORE: Singapore's biggest childcare chain, NTUC First Campus (NFC), will open 50 more childcare centres over the next two years. That would mean one new centre every two weeks.

Enrolment capacity will also increase by 50 per cent. Currently, some 9,000 children are enrolled in its centres.

NTUC First Campus said processes are in place to ensure a high quality of childcare is maintained..............

............It will set aside S$2.5 million for staff training next year, more than double this year's amount of S$1.1 million.

Chan Tee Seng, CEO of NTUC First Campus, said: \"All our new teachers undergo a very structured on-boarding programme. (For) 80 hours before they're deployed, and after they're deployed, for the next six months, we have an experienced teacher to partner with them.

\"This way, we ensure that even though they're trained teachers already, they don't go in cold, and that they're able to learn and at the same time be effective as quickly as possible.\"

Over 700 early childhood education professionals will also be recruited in the next two years.............

.................By 2013, NTUC First Campus expects all centres to have 95 per cent of its teachers holding diploma qualifications or be in the course of obtaining one. 90 per cent of principals are also expected to be degree-holders or undergraduates.

It said new centres are being planned for Ang Mo Kio, Sengkang and Jurong, where demand is high.

I think they serve an important segment of demand. Not all working parents are willing or have the means to afford a better than average standard of childcare, served by the private operators.

The government, in this case the affilated unions, must step in to fill in this gap. While they may not achieve the standards of large scale private childcare centres, they can at least provide for the basic care needs of the lower income group.

Excessive teachers’ turnover, poor staff-to-children ratio and inconsistent staff quality are definitely something NTUC will work on over the long run. As some forumers pointed out, their aggressive expansion plans can worsen their existing problems in the short run. But those factors should not be seen to disparage/discredit the important social role My First Campuses play for the average working class.

Visited the new branch of MFS at Bishan, impressed by the environment (well, new school is always nice and clean!). However abit concerned over their curriculum. The young principal does not seem to be the \"passionate\" type and did not do much explanation of the curriculum (most of e time, i was talking & asking?!). The low fee and clean environment is certainly a draw but I hv to think harder on the teachers' quality and curriculum esp my kid is the \"slower\" type - who will need a \"stricter\" environment to learn. Learn thr' play may be a good concept for those who REALLY learn thr' their play but for my kid, i thk he will just play and play..:) Just worry abt P1 as i see how my older kid's P1 homework as their kindergarten's foundation must be really solid to survive well in P1.

                      Hi all,

I have a concern. My DS is going to the IFC at MFS and during a visit, the P told us that when the babies reach 8-10 months, they no longer provide a cot bed for their naps. Instead, they sleep on child mattress on the floor. I saw 2 mattresses by the wall in the tiny room cramped with 5 cots, and I can’t help but feel bad for my child.

And by the time he goes to the IFC, there will be 13 babies altogether. He’ll be able to crawl and I’m just imagining, when he wakes up from his nap, and starts crawling around, no one may notice as the teachers will all be in the main room. Besides, the mattress isn’t big enough for him to roll over when he flips. Am I unduly worried?

                        Hi all parents,

Like to vent my frustration here, my dd is in a playgroup class. There are always typo error on my dd's English and Chinese name.

On the shoe shelf label: surname Goh was typed as Loh
On the cubbyhole label: chinese surname 吴 was typed as 误
Feedback to the form teacher: it took a month to be corrected with a black marker.

On dd random artwork: name written by hand, can have a mixture of upper and lower case letter, eg: ShErMAinE gOH
Or her Chinese name was written so cursively till I can't wonder if it belongs to my dd.

Latest error on her end year portfolio:
-All her English name have typed wrongly as Charmaine and was corrected with correction tape and handwritten over.
-All her chinese name was typed wrongly: character 恩 was typed as 思.
-The comments in the portfolio often refer dd as 'he'
-Observations on the portfolio were not apt to the pic inserted.
                        :stompfeet: :stompfeet: :stompfeet:

I'm kinda of angry with all the typo mistakes on my dd's name.
How will you react and what will you do if this happens to you?
