Child do not like to read books
-
mum2dan:
The best way to train a child to read more wordy books is still to use the Peter and Jane series. If you use other books, it will take a lot more patience and time because the child will lose interest and patience even faster since there are so many words that he cannot read. The Peter and Jane books introduce new words systematically and kids gain confidence as they read.Tamarind,
IC. Thanks!
Re: Peter and Jane series, my son actually started/completed bk 1-3 before 2.5 yr old. But he doesnt seems to have the patient to read bk 4 as it's more wordy.
So i change to other story bks (Fiction and Non Fiction), few sentences in a page. How do i get him to read those more wordy bks?
Whatever books that you use, you need to train the child to point to every word and read out loud. Also, it is best to make sure that the child already knows basic phonics well. -
Dear Tamarind,
What would be your advise if the child has being taught all the phonics listed in ur blog and is currently now in P&J bk 11a BUT when phonics words are encountered sometimes, the child is not able to piece the word together all the time.
Do we need to revise the phonics all over again but worry that the child may not like to repeat the same cycle again.
Thank you. -
Hi kids_r_innocent,
It is not necessary to revise all over again. You can try any phonics readers sold locally for more practice. At the same time continue to read story books everyday. In the case of my boy, after he stopped learning phonics, he needed about one to two years of practice by reading story books, to be really good at phonics. -

My kid not interested. Now is hid somewhere in the shelf.
Any other simple books for kid this age?
:thankyou: -
Hi Oppsgal,
The Si Wu Kuai Du methods are meant for parents to teach using games. Parents need to follow the instructions in the first 30 pages of book 1 to effectively use these books. These books are suitable for kids age 4 to 5 years old.
For 3 year old kids, you can try to use Ji Chu Han Zi instead :

These books are very easy to use, just point and read. -

My younger son, Pri 1, loves to read non-fiction books - animals, dinosaurs, insects and etc (not too sure is he attracted to the colourful pics or photos). I always ask him to read fiction books as well, as I feel good/flowery sentences come from fiction book rather than non-fiction books.
He is usually left to read on his own. I did notice he tend to skip sentences and lazy to ask words that he did not understand. Try asking him to read aloud before but he said he does not enjoy the story when he reads aloud…
Recently, I implemented using post sticks to stick on book pages when he came across words that he did not know or good sentences used. However, he does not seemed to read much by doing so… -
Hi Mothers
Don’t be ‘Kian Cheong’ 3 years old only. What do you expect. Not every child loves reading. My 1st girl started to read at 4 and my 2nd girl only 7 years old. See the different.
My 2nd girl loves to read baby books. I let her be since she enjoys. Most important is to cultivate reading. Don’t get so bother about baby books. Once the child reads, he or she will slowing find other books. Now my 2nd girl enjoys reading ‘Young Scientist’ by herself without me telling her to do so. She enjoys so much to the extent that she wants to do the experiment herself.
Relax mothers. Enjoy your child.
