I have a quick question on the MSG grading in Sec 3:
Msg 1 = 75% (A1) and above?
Msg 4 and below = 60% (B4) and above?
Hope some kind student and/or parent can help enlighten. Thanks! -
Hi, I thought the msg syst is the same for yr 1 to 4. It is the total grade of all subjects divided by total no of subjects examined. A1 is 75 and above, A2 70-74, B3 65-69, B4 60-64.
Can anyone pls pm me sec 2 maths curriculum? This IP program covers topics from different levels in the 0 level text so it is difficult to follow -
ksmama’s reply is correct. MSG is the average of all the grades. Thus if someone achieve a MSG of 2, it basically mean that the average score for all the graded subjects is between 70 to 74.

Thanks for the clarification.
Another question, ds is in Sec 3 and he has signed up to take the Chinese \"o\" levels paper in November this year.
May I know:
1) if it is compulsory for all Sec 3 students to take it (since they are not doing O levels next year?
2) any advantages/disadvantages to taking the Chinese O level paper in Sec 3?
3) would they be taking the Chinese O level paper again in Sec 4?
thanks in advance. -
Does anyone know if HCI is strict about its promotion criteria of MSG less than 4 for sec 3 students? That is, any exceptions to promote to Sec 4 if slightly exceed MSG 4?
Am waiting with bated breath for exam results to be released… -
@godiva
From what I last heard, I believe it is compulsory for HCI boys in the IP to take Chinese at Sec 3. In fact I was just on this topic with my boy yesterday. The school (believe NYGS too) will want the boys in the IP program to clear Chinese by Sec 3 and unless they scored badly/not good enough, they will not be required to take in Sec 4. -

Yes, I thought so too. I have been trying to get him to do some revision. But my boy told me yesterday it was optional :spank:@godiva

Which I was sceptical about.
Actually I remember a comment by the school authorities that HCI boys have to get A2 for O level chinese at least and they will be exempted from taking it in Sec4 or JC level?? -
Remember the sch told us that it is compulsory to take O level Chinese in Sec 3 so that by Sec 4 they can take and clear their higher Chinese . Then by JC they will have one less subject to worry and will more time to focus on other subjects.

Precisely my understanding.... -

No, it is not compulsory to take CL 'O' level at sec 3. I heard only selected pupils are recommended to take at sec 3. All HCL pupils are required to take HCL 'O' level at sec 4 and this is practiced across the board in all sec school in Singapore including IP schools. To gain exempted from Chinese at JC years, pupils who take HCL are required just to past it at 'O' level which they take in sec 4 (not sec 3), but individual IP schools may tighten this criteria. Have not heard if HCI allows students to use CL 'O' level to gain exemption for Chinese in yr 5 and 6.@godiva
