I also have the same problems for Chineses and English compo writing with no choice we had decided to sent him to creative writing class next year. He was not happy about this but at least we are doing our part to help him, when next year exam coming, we are no need to worry about the writing.

I shared your sentiment Little Patrick, I believe the kids will eventually come to know that all parents have their interest at heart.
I have been sourcing around for English creative writing class around my area mid this year but none of the tuition centre focus solely on creative writing, those recommended ones are quite a distance away. Being a FTWM, I face problem juggling with the class timing, headache… -
I am in same dilemma. Sent her to English writing class in first two terms and then discovered her Chinese compo is pulling the overall marks down so switch to Chinese compo class. Still evaluating which classes to send her next year. As a FTWM, it’s quite a challenge to juggle between work and family. Also need to leave some time for hubby and other kids. Am always glad when it’s hols so I can take a breather too

Hi Little Patrick, 711mum & Trina! :grphug:
Guess we all face the same dilemma - being a FTWM and our hands are full (sometimes can describe it as \"overflow\"
) when it comes to juggle between work, children and family.
We want the best for our children but at the same times we do not want to stress them too much that they lost the interest or too tired with the academic aspect of childhood
I spoke with a taxi driver the other day on the way home...his children are grown up..so he was listening to my story about bringing up 3 kids. He said,\" Being a mother this generation is really not easy especially now you not only have to send them to school for education but you have to know the syllabus yourself too!\"

Kudos to all mothers of three :udawoman:

Hi
My DS1 also in P3 and I also cannot understand why they must teach the kids to use the "good" phrases to describe something. Sometimes, my DS used such a "flowery" phrase to describe a sunny day, then after that continue with a rather dull sentence…so totally inappropriate…However, since he is still building up his Chinese vocab and geting him to read chinese books, hv to use such methods to help him get the marks…I aonly remeber using chinese cheng yu to write my compo…
The child’s compo looks the same as another after a while…no originality or creativity… -

It also puzzled me when I run thru my DD1's Chinese Compo - 7 out of 10 pieces started with 在一个风和日丽 的早辰....
Aiyoh, I asked her why you all your CL compo started with this 成语? She said,\" Like that sure won't make mistakes one and CL teacher will give point for it!\" Aiyoh, I :faint:

My dd's CL teacher also encourages them to memorise the \"flowery\" phrases for use in compo writing coz it add rigor to your story and most importantly add marks, whether the story flows is another aspect of marking criteria perhaps.
