I would say there's a certain extent of truth about luck. Otherwise, how does one explain why some kids who have been tested gifted (IQ test or Mensa) failed to make it past the second round? ok, better :siam: now.

Can be easily explained, most who passed first round of test but not the second round, are just not as gifted (in the aspects tested) as those who passed both rounds. Both my boys belong to this group.

There is always element of luck in any exam, but I think to be fair, most who qualifed for GEP are just simply smarter than those who don't.

Well it is hard to say .. Those who always get top in class from p1-3 and got into gep, might end up to be an average students in gep whereas those tt got lower position then him from p1-3 and got into gep might out shine him instead as Ge program will make the truly gifted ones stand out ..

From my oberservation in my dd's class, those who perform very well or reasonably well have tuition/enrichment lessons in all 3 subjects (esp in the very popular & expensive one :evil: ). So far, those who required to attend remedial lessons have bascially no tuition in that subject. Hence wise parents here, you can draw your own conclusion. All are bright children but result can differ much depending on external 'help' & of course the personality/attitude of the kids.

I believe that don't happen to all top gep scorers...

Sorry chamonix, think I have mis-read your earlier message. You were asking about those tested gifted by IQ test or Mensa, yet not make it past the second round. I am not sure how many of such cases, should be the exception and small in number?

Understand from frens the Bukit Timah schools have more GEPpers attending the very popular expensive tuition....better :siam: before I kena :spank: :pokeeye: :heresmyfish:

Well the super expensive tuition centre is very near the Bukit Timah centres so it's not surprising that you would see more of these students there. Just as you would see a congruence of other non-GEP Bukit Timah schools there plus mainstream students from the GEP schools.

I think for some parents, they have been sending their kids To tuition centre since lower primary, so they will not feel secure not sending their kids in upper primary To tuition centre even if their results are very good .......

Three of my students in my centre went for the GEP test. Understand that the result will be out in early November, is it?

Really, is there a need to go for tuition if you r already achieving 90+ in ur study? Just buy good assessment books n practice consistently should be sufficient in my opinion. Maybe unless you r weak in a particular subject. My two girls never had tuition when they were in Primary school. However, only in P6 did we sent them to tuition centre for Chinese subject as they were consistently getting about 70+, hopefully to enhance their aggregate overall.
