You only need cash for food at small shops and buying tickets for trams, ferry rides etc. Assuming your family eats all 3 meals outside and snacks too, you may need about $30 - $50 per meal. $100 - 150 a day = $600 - $900 on meals
Add the odds and ends for transportation and entrance fees etc, it's best you change $1500 or more.
The rest of the shopping / restaurants can use credit card. If you rather not use cards, then it really depends on how frugal/ spendthrift you are. -
Mico,
You leaving for HK soon? Have a good time and come back here to share and give tips, ok? -
taking the mini private bus in hong kong is quite an experience.
the driver is f1 world champion (super fast and good at turns and stop - but accidents do happen), no standing allow so everyone gets a seat and pretty comfortable at times. passengers are usually very helpful, they call out the no. of seats left on board to let the driver know so that he can advise those boarding at the next stop about it.
however, as seats are limited, it could be a long wait. also, despite the many times i had taken this bus, i still find it awkward to have to shout out my intention to alight when approaching my destination.
\"司机,麻烦前面左转落车\".............
sometimes a bit kancheong cos' unfamilar of address and if could alight at that place.
