        kiasu mummy:
Is CCA compulsary for P1 students at Temasek? I heard robotics is popular there? Any adv on how a child select CCA? accordance to their interest?

CCA not compulsory for P1 in Temasek Pri (TPS) .
Robotics as CCA is very popular but available from P3 onwards. also very costly .
Some CCAs are offered from P1 onwards, like dance.
I allow my children to take as many CCAs as they like between P1 and P3 , even changing CCA year to year as I feel that it gives them opportunity to learn new skills and try new CCAs.
By P4, they must settle down to just 1 or 2 CCAs
        Hope this helps :boogie:

CCA only compulsory for P4 onwards. Robotics is very costly, have to fork out your own money.

If I remember correctly, it's about $300 per year, and the cost is higher as for p4/5. :scratchhead:

                Hi,

We've been informed that Orientation for 2012 P1 students will be scheduled on 18 Nov and we'd like to get the text books at popular for some savings, the chance to select \"new\" (coz I remembered during my days at least one or two of the new books bundled will be crumpled) and also avoid the unneccssary purchase of option materials the school book shop usually bundle for convenience but worry that it will be a hassle in more ways than we can anticipated.

                Can parents adv:-
                (1) when is the book list for P1 available?
                (2) Does the school book shop opens only on the orientation day to for purchase of books?
                (3) Is it too late to purchase exercise books (if book shop is closed during school holidays) when the school re-open in January?
                (4) We used to buy roll of plastic to wrap up textbooks and even exercise books. How's the preactice nowaday? Or buy readily-made ones?
(5)Side track to school uniforms, do you purchase on the day of orientation?
                (6) I see students wearing the socks with Temasek logo, is this a must?

TIA for your valuable adv. πŸ™‚

                  Hi kiasu mummy,
First of all, welcome to Temasek!
                  1) Book list will be given out during the P1 orientation day.
                  2) The bookshop will be opened on most days during the school holiday. The dates will be stated on the booklist itself.
                  3) If you have time to drop by the school anytime before the school holiday, you can actually get the exercise books first. I do this every year for my kids. I get them to buy the exercise books before the sch hol and get the other books from popular. Save me the hassle as the queue at the school bookstore can be very long.
                  4) Up to you. If you have the time to wrap, the roll ones are more economical than the ready made ones.
                  5) It can get very crowded and they are usually out of sizes on orientation day. However, you will need to order the name tags from them even if you're not buying uniform on that day.
                  6) It is not.

                  Good luck!

                    Hi junrahmat,

We plan to buy textbooks from Popular and only exercise books or any other imperative items (like squared / single lined foolscap) from the school book shop - Is this doable?

Can you adv what is a must buy from the book shop other than exercise books? I will heed your adv to swing around to the book shop to get the exercise books before school closes and do you have any idea of the operation hours?

BTW, how many exercise books (single line / sq) does a P1 kid need?

Thanks very much indeed for your adv.

                      Hi kiasu mummy,

Yes, you can do that. That's what I do too! πŸ˜‚

Besides the exercise books, you would also need to get the school files from the school, as they will come with the school logo on them. I'm not sure of their operating hours though. However, you can give the school office a call to check. They are a very friendly bunch. The uniform vendor will be in school only on Wednesdays. They should be open from noon to ard 2pm.

I'm sorry but I can adv you on the no of exercise books a P1 kid needs. There's also the jotter books. But the bookshop vendor would be able to help you with that. They should have the booklist for next year already. :celebrate:
