Ques: if your kid gets CO from dream IP school via CCA sports but his usual school average is >20 marks below the school's past years' average COP, what are your considerations in accepting the CO? Assume no surprise in his PSLE result. Just exchanging views 😄

IMHO, a kid who is good in sport, his IQ is not weaker than his peers who are stronger in academic subjects. Just that he has to spend more times to master the sport and neglect his study. Therefore, if a kid is able to score a +/- 20 marks off the COP, he should go ahead to apply his dream IP school. As he progress in an environment that is competitive, he will eventually channel his competitive mindset in sport to academic.

I came across a kid who has a score of 230 and dsa into a IP school by using sport four years ago. Today, he managed to get a scholarship to study in year four.[/quote]Hi cheerfuldad, I am sure your DS can continue to excel in his sport as well as in academic in VS.

In my personal opinion, even if a child (purely academic) in the 70++ percent, (around t score 230) he should not be anyway lower in term of
academic capability as compared to his peers in the 80+ percent (t-score
      250).

Take for instance my DS1. He got into a band 3 school (cop around low
      230) three years ago after PSLE and also offered to study HCL. I managed to transfer him to a band 1 school during the appeal stage. The VP of the band 1 school warned him that he may need to do a lot of catch up as the average cop of the school is in the t score 240+. He promised and was given a place after school reopened in Jan.

He worked very hard and mixed around with the right friends and at end of sec 1, he was able to achieve 4 A1, 1A2 and the rest of the subjects B3. He
continued to do well in sec2 and manage to go to a triple science and top sec 3 class. He is able to score a straight 7A1 and 1A2 with a L1B5 of 6 and placed him in the 6th position in his cohort. (All the top 5 positions are china
scholars) We are confidence that he should continue to do well next year.

Thus I think that a +/- 20 in term of cop will not be a issue for your DS. IMHO. Regards.

        Hi rylee,

I fully agreed with your opinion. If you read my earlier post, we shared the same conviction. Therefore, I have full confident that my DS will be able to cope in VS. Btw, I really happy for your DS1 for his achievement.

        God bless!

Cheerfuldad- Of course sportsmen not equate to lower IQ, haha. Btw my DS is also a sportsman  so that's why this exchange of ideas. Thanks, congrats and wishing your DS all the best in VS :rahrah:

Rylee -your DS1 gives all of us with DS some glimmer of hope haha 😄 Such a huge jump in results for your DS :salute: For us with DS who used or may use sports in future for DSA, there is some fear :nailbite: about balancing the rigorous training with heavy school work especially if he manages to get into an IP school like cheerfuldad's DS. Thanks for your comments again.

              Dear all

NEED your advice urgently please. My husband (VS and VJC alumna himself) and I would really love to enrol our DS1 in VS. The ONLY snag is the long commute from where we stay, ie Woodlands. And there’s no MRT, just buses which includes changing of bus. This seems such a silly reason not to choose the school.
Does anyone know of any bus transport or private arrangement for students in Woodlands? please do let me know.
              thank you!

For school bus, you can contact 6747 4825. They are one of the bus vendor company doing for VS.

Integrated Programme Introduced In Two More Schools in 2012

                      9
Victoria School (VS) and Cedar Girls’ Secondary (CGSS) will offer the Integrated Programme (IP) to their first batches of Secondary 1 students from 2012 onwards. Parents who would like to select either of these schools for their child should indicate if they are selecting the IP or ‘O’ level programme in these schools. There are different option codes for the different programmes in these schools, just as different schools have different option codes. For example, a parent may choose VS (IP) as a first choice and VS (‘O’ Level Programme) as a second choice. Another parent may choose VS (IP) as a first choice, another IP school as a second choice and VS (‘O’ Level Programme) as a third choice. Yet another parent may choose a different IP school as a first choice and VS (‘O’ Level Programme) as a second choice.

For more information on the Secondary One Posting Exercise and S1-IS, parents can refer to the MOE Secondary One Posting website or the information booklet entitled “Choosing Your Secondary Schools” which was earlier distributed to the pupils. For enquiries, parents can call the MOE Customer Service Centre at 6872 2220 during office hours.

Information for Primary 6 Boys on Victoria School’s ‘O’ Level and

                        Integrated Programme

                        Dear Primary 6 Boys,

Congratulations on completing your primary school education!

We have received many queries on the school’s ‘O’ Level Programme and Integrated Programme (IP). We are very encouraged by your enthusiasm and interest to know more about Victoria School (VS)

As part of the Victoria-Cedar Alliance (VCA), VS will offer the IP to the first batch of Secondary 1 students from 2012 onwards. At the same time, VS will continue to offer the O Level Programme to the majority of its students. There are different option codes for the ‘O’ level programme and IP.

Students (and parents) should indicate if they are selecting the ‘O’ level programme (3014) or IP (9151). For example, a student may choose VS (IP) as a first choice and VS (‘O’ Level Programme) as a second choice.

For greater flexibility for student-centric learning, VS will also offer Secondary 3 entry into the IP starting from 2013. This will provide academically strong students with an enriched curriculum beyond academic content, and allow these students to proceed to JC without taking the ‘O’ levels so that they can use the time to engage in broader learning
experiences. Entry will be determined by merit.

For more information on our ‘O’ Level Programme and IP, please refer to the following:
