If it were up to my DD, she would have taken all sciences and no humanities - literature was compulsory.
this is what my gal said too.....
she wants all sciences and maths, neither of those humanities options.
but EL Lit is compulsaory in her sch.

          DadOfGirl:

There is alwasy temptation to choose \"Easy\" option. It is human to take option that causes least pain for now without foreseeing \"Gates\" closing on them for future. We are talking about \"Teen\" humans here. That's why My DD's school asked Parent's signature on the forms submitted on-line

If you have \"found\" yourself , by all means go for \"humanities\" , there are range of Social science careers on offer later at Uni. But if you are taking 7 subjects with one humanities , shouldn't science subject be Physics over biology?
Whether it is physics or biology, it also depends on the school's recommendation based on student's past performance.

In any case, it makes no sense to take subjects just bc they are practical for the future if the student is not interested nor very good at the subject. If he/she doesn't do well in it, it will pull down his/her whole performance portfolio, so may not help in future. Best to do what is in that student's strength/interest, even though it doesn't seem quite as wise, bc good grades would still be better than mediocre ones.

So no need for students in these schools to do Lit plus another humanities? Make Lit the compulsory humanities.

In my dd's school, the e-lit was compulsory for all students. For the humanities, they had to choose either ss/geog or ss/hist. Guess it's sort of like a school-imposed criteria. Either of those were not that great for my dd lah, e-lit being compulsory for one - the only time she passed e-lit was at the O-level exam itself! She failed all throughout even at prelims.

maybe i was unclear, trying to say that besides the mandatory humanities,
the sch also makes it compulsory to take E lit, as it is under lang arts.
how she wishes that there isnt the need to choose another humanities
since there's already an E lit.

Ok. How about IP schools that offer Lang Arts? You only need one contrasting subject at A levels, so why do students have to do Lit (compulsory) plus one extra humanities, as in the case of DHS. Is it the same in NJC?
