In my dd's school, the e-lit was compulsory for all students. For the humanities, they had to choose either ss/geog or ss/hist. Guess it's sort of like a school-imposed criteria. Either of those were not that great for my dd lah, e-lit being compulsory for one - the only time she passed e-lit was at the O-level exam itself! She failed all throughout even at prelims.
But it is compulsory to take humanities too now. (apart from E-lit, which is the school's criteria, not MOE).phankao:

maybe i was unclear, trying to say that besides the mandatory humanities,
the sch also makes it compulsory to take E lit, as it is under lang arts.

Ok. How about IP schools that offer Lang Arts? You only need one contrasting subject at A levels, so why do students have to do Lit (compulsory) plus one extra humanities, as in the case of DHS. Is it the same in NJC?
