Evalim:
Yes! I believe every child experienced differently... but I also believe they learnt alot from CCA, responsibilites especially...they know they have to be there every training... team work is important no one can works individually without their fellow mates..they need each other to do a job.. hence they develop trust in each other.... of course! sometime they blame each other when things not turn out not right... example: they lose a compeition but they learnt from it and build up a bond as they will do better for next compeition...
But secondary school CCA really take up ALOT of time. Must be prepared. Some kids don't like it in the end.phankao:

Yes! :hugs: I believe our kids have other potential besides studies...like CCA, for secondary school CCA are important, it help them to bulid their leadership and confidence..most important responsibilites.. and there are more choices of CCA in secondary hence I believe they will do better... :boogie:
This is what I see in my elder ds... hence I believe with this attitude he can do better in JC/poly......for JC/Poly... I heard most kids do well CCA for secondary carry on to do well for their JC/Poly....that's why Hwa Chong and SP/Ngee Ann poly's dragonboat team are always the top...
For my elder ds school, the principal did not stop the CCA actitives for the O level till Sept(most school did that).... he believes that kids can cope and do well in both areas which is quite true....but of course... some kids cannot... some kid like my younger ds no way! he cannot juggle both well....hence I have to be careful to know about his interest and to consider what is good for him then select that CCA...
Yes, I do know all about CCA. haha - my JC dd has been doing the same CCA since Pri 3, and my Sec 2 ds has been doing the same CCA since pri 2. My p6 ds will be continuing the same CCa he has been in since p1. -

Ah, story is never that simple. My ds2 was always unusual and problematic with studies. Focus poor and underperforming. He was poor in language, but not Chinese (even tho we are not Chinese-speaking family). He had problems with English, which meant his English would be poor, his Science would be poor and to some extent, so would his math be poor too. Many suggested that he be tested. But....he refused. Stuck like mountain - cannot be moved with any suggestions. So just leave him be lor. His life. He wants to live it the hard way - up to him.
Dear phankao,
Hi Ms Tay! I once spoke to the school councillor and she mentioned some parents just can't accept their kids are having problem...hence they refused to seek help or bring the child to the doctor.... the Councillor herself wanted to meet these parents but they simply refused to drop by and discuss..Evalim:

I just don't understand why their parents don't apply exemption for them :scratchhead: since they hv language learning difficulty .( even some normal kids r struggling in MT) . It might pull all the way down the t- score and it really disadvantage for them.
My younger ds was diagnosed of ADD(Attention Deficit Disorder )he just cannot concernate well in class... I had a hard time too...but of course, I have to consider what's best for my child hence I never push my ds, as long as he can make it into secondary school, I am contented.
Your ds2 is exactly same as my younger ds.... hence to be honest I just prayed hard
that he can make it to NA,express I guess cannot....
my younger ds is poor in almost all subjects... his favourite subject I would say is science. But because of his english... he is unable to elaborate more and he cannot score....he is kind of stuck too... he don't read so he cannot improve... when he young, I had a hard time teaching he cannot remember well so I have to repeat again and again plus he cannot concernate worst...
Every lesson I taught him I have to set a cane by my side... cos he will start to dream as I teach... I did send him for test in P2... they found him ADD....but the rest ok.... only this year ,I felt something changed in him as the exam drew nearer he begin to feel the pressure, I can see he push himself to focus... he understand what he learn.... guess it's quite late for him but I am happy cos he realise the importance of learning.... I still need to talk to him... cos the next step to secondary will not be easy for him....so I believe your child will learn to know the importance too.... some kids can do better in secondary school

Ms tay:
Yes Ms Tay ! best of luck for all the children!! :celebrate:
sp nd child = special needs childEvalim:
Dear Ms Tay,
Don't worry! I believe your ds will find his interest when goes to secondary... it's a good thing that he is good at his studies... my elder ds CCA is dragonboat...he loves outdoor... used to train hard for his school compeition...he trained 3 to 4 times a week and he can do fairly for his acamedic... guess he learnt to balance both CCA and acamedic..I remembered 4 yrs ago, I joined my elder ds on his open house CCA and we went around to take a look on the introduction of each individual groups (there will be a open house for CCA the 1st week of the school reopen), my ds immediately selected dragonboat as he like canoeing... I told him there will be no turning back for secondary once you selected that CCA stick on to it till your O level, you cannot drop out or change your CCA as 2 marks cannot be deducted for your O level result...
Hence we must be very careful and speak to child before he commits... my ds did all the way... God bless...
Glad to hear your ds is in track and field :hugs:, my younger ds is also in track and field....guess your ds like mine won medals too... so don't worry, I believe they will select a good CCA for themselves in secondary.
Sorry... I can't understand \"how old is ur sp nd child\" what is sp nd child?
I have 2 boys the younger one was dianogised with ADD and he is in PSLE this year..
Thank u so much for ur advice and info . Wish ur ds pass his psle with flying colour :rahrah: :rahrah: all the best n gd luck!! :celebrate: -
Evalim:
LOL - mine cannot work even with threats, bribes, treats. Got sacked by 2 very good tutors. So in the end, left him on his own to study - which he rarely ever did. Let's see.
Your ds2 is exactly same as my younger ds.... hence to be honest I just prayed hard

Dear Ms Tay,
Thank you for your warmth comment... yes... I am also a human... sometime I am very sad too and ask why my child is different..... but come to think of it at least he can walk and talk and he is healthy, I would say normal....hence there is hope.... I have actually struggle for a long time since P1 to P6 every year , his exam is like I exam... I am a working mum I applied leave every year just to teach him even he has tutors cos tutors can't catch his style of studying... they come , teach and go.....they don't bother whether the child understand or not .... some tried their best but because they cannot understand the child's problem , they are not able to help... I usually have to teach again and make sure he knows it.... repeat the question and re-do again infront of me.... for a SPM (short term memory) child he tends to forget after sometime.... I will have to do a refresh course for him... its tedious but he learns.... no choice... but as he grew older , I hope he can outgrown his ADD and SPM... as long as he learns to focus and he learns I am happy... for his PSLE I really hope he can do well!!! I also hope your child and every child do well for PSLE this year 2011!!! All the best!!! :celebrate: -
Hi mummy evalim.... Your above post really touches my heart ... :snuggles: .... Hope tt your Ds will out grow his problem... Likewise to. Ms tay :grphug:
