      PUB should learn from KL.

KL has a car tunnel that is divided into 3 layers. Normally the top 2 layers are for cars to use. But during heavy downpour, each layer of the tunnel can be progressively used to drain water away from low laying areas to some holding pools some distance away. This is a flood prevention solution.

CCTV only monitors, doesn't drain water.
Yeah boy! I was watching news last night and couldn't help comparing how different KL and Singapore's contingency plan were, which left me wondering what our contingency plan is... 🤷

the money is spend in prevention rather than to \"cure\" the problem....

from cctv, when they see that Orchard Road is about to flood, they will provide first-hand information to the managing agents, then all the building tenants will be notified immediately to equip with sandbag barrier....so floods can be prevented from getting into the building....

I respect your view but I disagree that the cctv will be able to prevent flood.

For watching, the managing agents will be doing that, they are paid to do so, just like the owners at the Bukit Timah condo did so, to prevent water getting into the buildings.

How about the roads and houses and cars that got flooded ?

So what if Vivian watches it from the comfort of his home that the flood water is rising ? A flood is a still a flood and causes people to lose money and property. He most probably task his underling to do the watching and report to him only when the water breaches a certain level. This are all so passive

Get to the root of the problem and go dig the drain deeper and clear the blockages instead of go digging the Bukit Brown graves unnecessarily (not his area of responsibility though, just in general the government's responsibility to solve all these flooding problems)

I seriously doubt Vivian would be watching those CCTV. He too highly paid to do such tasks and it is not his responsibility to watch the CCTV. He is handsomely paid to set strategic directions and guide his people in coming out with \"creative\" solution to tackle sticky problems, like these floodings

of course we know he won't be watching the cctv. if he does he ought to be downgraded to watch and tankee takes over his portfolio ... :rotflmao: someone will be doing the job and he will receive an sms when the situation gets serious, that's it.

the point is, it does not solve the flooding problem

Actually tunnels, digging etc are good solutions that require alot planning, time and money to implement. I believe the cctv is just one of the faster methods to try to control the situation. At least the major areas are monitored, and response can be targeted. To solve the root of the problem, major research and planning has to be done to justify the expense to the public. I do hope they do not rush to invest in some expensive system like Japan spending millions to build those breakwater... and it didn't work at all. without data from previous experience, it will be difficult to forecast and predict how bad a situation should be expected, and wat needs to be done to solve it.

no offense ya, I also think that though the headline is 'PUB's answer', it is just a manner of speech. I don think PUB claimed to have the 'answer' for the flood problems right? 😉 the PUB, though part of the govt, is not the whole representative of the govt too.
