it could also be a parent from school who doesnt approval of such tactics especially if the parent (successfully got the child in via this method) brags and brags and brags about it. -
The thing is if you do something like this, the parents may know they have to keep it a secret, but what about the kid? Has he got to lie as well? Unfair burden on the kid? Teaching the kid that it’s alright to lie and cheat to get what you want?
Anyway what’s the point of getting the kid into the school when you stay in Jurong or Tuas or Yishun or somewhere where commuting will take more than half hour one way in good traffic. It’ll be draining on the kid and the parent in terms of time and energy. -
of course it is not right to cheat and not worth the price all parties have to pay.

most smart parents who decide to cheat would probably do it without telling their kid. so there is nothing for the kid to lie about cos he doesnt know anything.
it is only those insecured ones who kept stressing to the kid to lie about address that probably got them sniffed out by the school or the parents in the school. :roll:
anyway, most pri 1 kids would probably not be talking about address, how he got into the school, what the job of the dad is, etc, games and cartoons are more likely to be the the main topcis.
unfortunately, many do cheat the system and got away with it and you just dont know who. and even if you do, would you report it to the school or moe especially if they are your best friends, brother, sister?
so to me, if you really want that place in school, do it the right way.

imoh, in life sometimes we do need to lie and cheat. it is just a matter of the degree of seriousness and how harmful the lie could be.
we always tell our kids to tell the truth and admit their mistakes but there comes a time, you have to let them know the truth which is sometimes one needs to lie. -

Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for writing to us on 12 November 2010.
We wish to clarify that parents using address of rented apartment will not be at a disadvantage if the school should conduct balloting.
We would like to share with you that the registration is done based on the NRIC address that is reflected on the parents’ NRIC at the time of registration and the address used for the registration of a child (assuming Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident) during the Primary 1 registration exercise is based on the family’s permanent address i.e. staying at this address on a long-term basis.
Parents are also expected to be truthful when they use a different address during registration. They should use their long-term address for registration. There is no minimum period that the family is required to stay at the address before they can use the address for registration. However, if the address in their NRIC is a short-term one i.e. the property is rented on a temporary basis due to upgrading or renovation, they should inform the school of this at the point of registration. If the school is required to conduct balloting, parents using temporary addresses should not take part in the ballot so as not to deprive those living in the immediate vicinity a place in this school. They should register their child in another school.
Children who gain admission to a school through distance priority should be living in the address used for registration during their Primary school education. This is because the distance priority takes into consideration the benefits for young children attending schools nearer their homes. We expect parents who prefer their children to benefit from going to a nearby school to continue to reside in that address.
We do recognise that some families may need to move due to various valid reasons, and will give due consideration in such extenuating circumstances. However, should any family be found to have intentionally used an address for P1 registration just to benefit from the distance priority and subsequently move out of that address shortly after, then MOE reserves the right to reallocate the school place. In such cases, MOE would facilitate a transfer for the child to a school near to the family’s current residence with remaining vacancies."

teachers will ask the kids in "show and tell" about their home, how they come to school etc … lo and behold, secrets will be out without the kids knowing it … kid tells the truth and teachers realise the address mentioned by kids don’t match …

Yes. The parents may not tell the kid to lie, but the truth will surface somehow. Those simple show-and-tells may not be that innocent. They could actually be fact-finding missions directed by MOE sleuths. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
Anyway, the school will send mails to the registered address and this has to be updated yearly. How to keep up the pretense if you're not renting the place anymore?

the best way to find out is for teacher to publish the address and phone contact of each child and we can kapok kapok a bit :evil: :evil:
