Ya agree, sometimes it's a headache and \"gamble\" trying to find a good tutor or tuition centre for our kids.
For me, apart from suitable class timings and tutors, I also look at how the classes are conducted, class size and the pitch level of the class. I will also consider location - don't want my child to spend too much traveling time since she's the one taking public transport to get to the tuition centre. At times, I look at how the admin person interacts with parents and students.
And of course, come to KSP to \"research\" and seek advice from fellow concerned parents.

Yes, i think the teachers are very important too. The teaching materials for most of the chinese tuition are more or less the same -

I think the materials and the teacher in the tuition centre are ok but it is my ds's bad attitude that lead to poor result.PiggyLalala:

However you may want to take note in a group tuition, whatever is taught may not be exactly the same as what would be tested in the exam. Of course the usual cloze passage and comprehension will be the same but like this time round, the chinese paper 1 tested on essay writing but in the tuition centre, they do more on letter writing.
I am thinking of finding a 1-1 chinese tutor for my ds so that whatever will be tested will be reinforced in the tuition.
Do give me the feedback if your ds eventually joined hua cheng tuition.
Thank you. -

Ya tt why after p3 I switched my Ds from group tuition to 1-1 tuition as I would like tackle his main weakness in chinese which is the compo part.. Thereafter I can see improvement in his chinese compo .. And maybe also the paper 2 portion. But his tutor doesn't teach secondary school student plus my Ds would like to go for gp tuition instead of1-1..... I think for

secondary chinese, the best is to read a lot of chinese story bks but kid like mine .... Only read English story book...
So at the moment will try out group tuition for him ... And if by chance can come across a good private tutor in teaching sec school chinese , then I might persuade my Ds to take 1-1 tuition ....
Anyway will check with hua cheng if they follow RI HCl syllabus closely or not ..... -
Not Hua Cheng Thomson Plaza but Hua Cheng BTSC…I give my 2cents worth if you want to know anything ? I am really thankful for all the helpful sharings in this forum so I will try to share my experience.
My son was with TianHsia K2-P4 (T1) then stopped, coached by me, then with HuaCheng BTSC for both enrichment and writing class P5 T1,T2 then only writing class for T3.
Honestly with all established enrichment centers ie. those been in the business for several years, I feel that they will have good course materials and inline with our education requirements. The problem is which teacher your child will get, the class mix and chemistry between teacher and the class. TH’s classes tend to be big, a lot of materials to be covered in 1 session (probably a strategy to impress parents who ask to look at class materials before signing up), often the teacher has to rush through all the materials and markings so limited time can be spent on explanation. HuaCheng BTSC is relatively new in this area, the class size are smaller. The enrichment class materials - I personally find them good - for writing class, not as much as some others I have seen but because of small class size and encouraging teacher, my son overcame his fear of writing CL compo and progressed from 21/40 for T1 to 28/40 by T3. The result is still not stellar but I find that his attitude towards the language has definitely improved. This is a 天时地利人和 situation and I don’t attribute it entirely to the center.
He went for 1 makeup lesson at Thomson Plaza but class was really big (12 students) and I feel he didn’t really get much from that lesson. -
Thanks pixiedust for sharing
... But bt timah is far for us ... So let's see how
