Hi piggylalala , does your sec sch Ds has chinese tuition? If yes which tuition center he goes? Gd?
My ds has chinese tuition but still he did not do well for his chinese. I think the materials and the teacher in the tuition centre are ok but it is my ds's bad attitude that lead to poor result.PiggyLalala:
To me, other then the centre teaching materials, the tutors also v important.... So yet to find out hua cheng one...
Yes, i think the teachers are very important too. The teaching materials for most of the chinese tuition are more or less the same
However you may want to take note in a group tuition, whatever is taught may not be exactly the same as what would be tested in the exam. Of course the usual cloze passage and comprehension will be the same but like this time round, the chinese paper 1 tested on essay writing but in the tuition centre, they do more on letter writing.
I am thinking of finding a 1-1 chinese tutor for my ds so that whatever will be tested will be reinforced in the tuition.
Do give me the feedback if your ds eventually joined hua cheng tuition.
Thank you. -

Ya tt why after p3 I switched my Ds from group tuition to 1-1 tuition as I would like tackle his main weakness in chinese which is the compo part.. Thereafter I can see improvement in his chinese compo .. And maybe also the paper 2 portion. But his tutor doesn't teach secondary school student plus my Ds would like to go for gp tuition instead of1-1..... I think for

secondary chinese, the best is to read a lot of chinese story bks but kid like mine .... Only read English story book...
So at the moment will try out group tuition for him ... And if by chance can come across a good private tutor in teaching sec school chinese , then I might persuade my Ds to take 1-1 tuition ....
Anyway will check with hua cheng if they follow RI HCl syllabus closely or not ..... -
Not Hua Cheng Thomson Plaza but Hua Cheng BTSC…I give my 2cents worth if you want to know anything ? I am really thankful for all the helpful sharings in this forum so I will try to share my experience.
My son was with TianHsia K2-P4 (T1) then stopped, coached by me, then with HuaCheng BTSC for both enrichment and writing class P5 T1,T2 then only writing class for T3.
Honestly with all established enrichment centers ie. those been in the business for several years, I feel that they will have good course materials and inline with our education requirements. The problem is which teacher your child will get, the class mix and chemistry between teacher and the class. TH’s classes tend to be big, a lot of materials to be covered in 1 session (probably a strategy to impress parents who ask to look at class materials before signing up), often the teacher has to rush through all the materials and markings so limited time can be spent on explanation. HuaCheng BTSC is relatively new in this area, the class size are smaller. The enrichment class materials - I personally find them good - for writing class, not as much as some others I have seen but because of small class size and encouraging teacher, my son overcame his fear of writing CL compo and progressed from 21/40 for T1 to 28/40 by T3. The result is still not stellar but I find that his attitude towards the language has definitely improved. This is a 天时地利人和 situation and I don’t attribute it entirely to the center.
He went for 1 makeup lesson at Thomson Plaza but class was really big (12 students) and I feel he didn’t really get much from that lesson. -
Thanks pixiedust for sharing
... But bt timah is far for us ... So let's see how -

:thankyou: pixiedust for sharing. It's a headache trying to find a reasonably good tutor/ enrichment centre for my kids. It's really trial and error. Not Hua Cheng Thomson Plaza but Hua Cheng BTSC...I give my 2cents worth if you want to know anything ? Sometimes, what works for one may not work for another. So, have to take a chance and
and :xedfingers: for the best
Still, reading the parents' feedback here really helps me with the decision making process.

Hello,
I am wondering how about the chinese enrichment programme in Hua Cheng @ Bukit Timh Plaza, as i am looking for my p5 boy who got terrible results in his recent chinese exam in SA1. I heard two of his classmates got very good marks who were having the enrichment classes at Hua cheng.
May I have some more feedback about Hua Cheng? As I am considering to sign with them, thanks in advance. -
My niece is at Hua Cheng. My sister says the materials are good and my niece enjoys going for classes, took a while to see results but she has improved quite a lot this term. My niece has been there for 2 years.

Hi,
I had almost one year experience with Hua cheng. Although I do see some areas still need to be improved, overall I would like to give them an "excellent" comment and worth to try. One may debate that their way of teaching is "dry and hard", I heard before we enrolled. But now, I don’t think it is the truth with my own experience.
What I learnt is that they are quit strict and stringent for upper primary pupils and acadamic-oriented. My DS was with them for P5 NC and creative writing, initially he felt their pace was too fast and also because of some homeworks but after one term he felt comfortable and found more confidence with his school exams. This is because that Hua Cheng enrichment programs were design the have close synch with school syllabus. They will pre-study the same lesson as in the school and provide plenty of practices and reviews after the same lesson was taught in school. I like their approach very much since the same knowledge was exposed double or triple times to the kids in various contextes.
But it maybe tedious to kids, but no choice for achieving better results. My DS’ SA1 NC paper is 81/90, compo is 31.5/40. I got encouraged to continue his enrichment program with Hua Cheng. But his HCL is only 39/60, which need to improve.
However, for lower primary and pre-school they followed another kind of approach, which are more interest-cultivating such as their "AppleTree" programme. My k2 girl enjoyed their pre-school class and get well prepared for her P1.
I recommand you directly talk to their counter stuff, an always smiling and easygoing lady. And they may ask to do a diagnose assessment or review on the exam papers which done in school. Their number is 64696337. -
I just registered my P5 gal for their intensive holiday program.
Her recent SA1 result saw a huge drop in her marks. The panicky me has no choice but to find alternatives to boost up her understanding.
According to the lady at the centre, she said in this 5 day programme, the student will be given oral practices and will need to complete 1 compre & 1 compo every day. :yikes:
She also mentioned that from P5 onwards, comprehension passages are not straightforward answers. They will also teach the student how to analyse the comprehension passages and know where to extract the answers.
Hopefully, it will be of help. -
Hi lesmay,
Thanks for your feedback. So fast, you registered the holiday prog.
I am still considering for the holiday programme due to it may conflict with our family holiday plan. But I signed up for the regular enrichment programme for the next term, since their material for P5 is quite impressive which I saw when I visited them. And also heard from my friend whose P6 gal got 9 marks improved in her SA1 of PHPPS since she joint hua cheng for NC enrichment last year.
Hope it really works, but according to their counter, the centre will closely moniter the progress of each student and regular communicates with parents and seeks the cooperations for making sure kids review the works at home, as all the tips for exams were given in works in the class.
