      twilight:
I'm sorry but Cedar is not strong in English and the school does not put as much focus in English as in math and sciences, which is weird since English is one area that the school can improve on. Anyway I digress.

I'm not sure what special programs there are for English, but there is talent development for English language. The only activity I know that girls in English TD have been involved is some story writing workshop. I think other than that there's an overseas trip for literature students.
oh I see...thanks! Maybe it's from your point of view, but my P6 teacher mentioned that Cedar is strong in their English language. I remember during their DSA selection test everyone had to write essays which were of quite chim standards. (one of the topics was something like, \"Academic achievements guarantee success. Do you agree?\") Maybe the essays are not only used for judging our language skills, but also to see our aptitude. I dunno.

I really don't want to reject their offer but I've run through the school choices carefully with my parents and judging solely on the subjects/progs. offered I realise that SCGS and CHIJ St. Nicholas are more appealing to me...but we'll see how it goes after I receive my PSLE results. If I reject Cedar (which is quite a risk) and appeal to either of these two schools, hopefully I can nurture my talents there too.

However, I think Cedar would not be too biased towards Maths and Science...because after all it's IP, it has to be all-rounder I guess. It would be unfair to those weaker in the said subjects like me haha.

There are many factors to consider too, like the distance, school fees, etc. Cedar is the nearest IP school from my home and since it's an autonomous school the fees wouldn't be too high unlike independent ones like SCGS. St. Nicks is also an auto. school, and according to SCGS's website, in 2013, it will collaborate with SCGS and Catholic High to become IP. However in 2013 I'm already in Sec 2, so joining St. Nicks's IP prog. may not be as easy. (cuz I heard that only if your results are exceptionally well then can join.) But like I mentioned before, I don't want to take the risk and reject Cedar just because of these reasons.

So I think I'll go for Cedar ^^

pardon me if I went off topic :3

Yes, from my point of view as a current student of the school and statistical data. Cedar has performed very well for O levels in the math and science subjects. For English, it’s still ok I guess but not as well as the sciences, math and combined humanities.

I’m not saying you should reject the offer; just painting the real picture for you so that you don’t get disappointed when you don’t see what you expected. Ultimately, it is your choice on which school you want to go, and for your own reasons. The CHIJ schools have been known for their good standard of English.

Cedar hasn’t started IP, so we have no idea how it would turn out to be.

SCGS and St Nics will only go IP in 2013. And that applies only to Sec 1s who are in 2013. These will then progress to a new JC which will be set up for them. But being a new JC with no track record, many are taking a wait-and-see approach before plunging in.

Anyway you will still have to go the O level route if you go SCGS and St Nics next year.

There is a Talent Development programme for acdemically inclined girls. Since you got in the Cedar-Vic IP programme, i would guess your results are stellar and will have no problem being in TD. In the TD briefing i attended, was told they hv an academy which caters to girls who are more linguistically inclined. They attend writing workshops which hone their writing skills.

I thought that my DD was stronger with the languages based on her performance in P6. But that seemed to change after she entered sec sch. Cos sec maths and science are not like pri sch maths and science. And sec sch languages are not like pri sch languages. You will know what i mean after going thru sec sch. you will also be exposed to humanities and will surely discover more along the way.

Keep your options open and don't write off your maths and science. But i do agree with twilight that maths and science are Cedar's forte though i hv no apologies about that. fyi the 2010 cohort got 100% distinction for 'O' level Lit.

            hi Cedar students,

            a) if you are just an ordinary student - not a school prefect, not class monitor, nor a CCA leader (for selected few students) - does the school still groom you in any form of leadership training ? If Yes, what kind of activities do the school engage you in ?

            b) in terms of character building (besides leadership) - how does the school help you out in this aspect, from Sec 1 to Sec 4 ?

            c) how are you taught problem solving skills in school ?

            d) are you taught any critical thinking skills in your Secondary school ?

Well then subjects aside, how is school life in Cedar? can someone kindly describe/elaborate it to me? I heard that many of the students their have a strong sense of school pride.

School life in Cedar is quite fun. You may think that it's stressful but no. I'm a Sec 1 student from Cedar though. Cedar's very united. We cheer alot! 🙂 During jogging sessions to bond with our classmates. And there are also inter-class competitions to help keep the class spirit. Which is why we love our school. During the track&field inter-school championships, many Cedarians went to support the athletes from our school. Teachers are amiable and approachable too! Curriculum is from 720-150 on some days and once a week it would be 720-105.

There are also talks that make us confident speakers and also project works to boost teamwork amongst people. Overall, Cedar's environment is good. The school also has many facilities like a gym, an indoor sports hall, a 400m and 200m track.. :siam: 😉

It gets stressful as you get to sec 4 🙂

Yup, we cheer during assemblies, during jogging, during celebrations and many more times that I can't remember.

There are 9 classes but there is one DSA class which has less than 20 students I think.
