Hi, my DS did not clear round 2, any parents know what’s the fate of those who did not make it through round 2 particular to Rosyth School? Thanks in advance.

Hi all! New to this forum. πŸ™‚ my DS received the yellow envelope on Friday and is ecstatic about getting through to GEP. We didn't send him for tuition, enrichment or training and although he has all along been precocious, we are surprised and happy for him that he has been selected.

However, like many mummies here, I struggle with the whole 'big fish small pond', 'small fish big pond' conundrum. He has always been one of the top in his current school and we are learning to set realistic expectations once he enters the new stream next year.

How are you selecting the right school with the right fit for your child? I am keen on putting ours in a non-SAP school as we would prefer not to burden him with HCL. We are hoping for ACS as 1) we are Christians, 2) he is keen on joining their chess team and lastly, 3) his m grandfather was from ACS & p grandfather is a Methodist. Both hope to see him don the ACS uniform. What is the likelihood of him gettin into the school of his choice?

One more thing- what about the culture shock? πŸ™‚ My DS is from a neighborhood school v v near our place. I think the new school will be such a diff environment for him to take in. Also, will kids compare the wealth and ability of each other's parents / family?

Finally, what about their ability to blend w the mainstream? Some people, I have read, ostracize and make fun of the \"Geppers\". How has your child, if he or she is in GEP, coped with this? πŸ™‚

First and foremost, I do not have any kid with the GE classes in SHPS but both my boys are attending/attended SHPS.

My elder DS who is now in Sec 1 graduated from SHPS and during Pri 5 and Pri6 was put into the inter-mingling class with the GE. According to him, teachers are supportive and overall atmosphere for learning and growing is good.

Of course everyone should take note here that SHPS will be moving into a temp school at Bedok for two years starting end of next year (e.g. for the current Pri 3 cohort, it will involve their Pri 5 and Pri 6).

As a school under the big umbrella of Anglican church, they also emphasis on spiritual well-being of the kids....

My dd attends chinese enrichment. No tuition for other subjects. So far she is coping with GE syllabus (not topping std like when in p1-3 lah but more than 80% and she's happy with that, so am I πŸ˜„ ). she did not ask for tuition for other subj.

Coping well in GEP without much enrichment.

                      I'm impressed, Neko. :celebrate:

                      Hi Neko,
Just curious, do you coach your dd in her studies (except chinese)? and your dd is all on her own? Will like to encourage some parents that this is possible without parent coaching and enrichment/tuition.

It is possible to do well in GEP without tuition. In fact some students who don’t have Math nor English tuition do better than those who study at TLL.
