Travel: Japan - General

we wanted to go with hong thai on this packaged tour covering almost the same route as yours. but the price quoted was pretty ex. almost $13000 for 3 adults and 2 children. i planned my own covering just tokyo only via SQ and hotels, about $7000. cheaper if fly via CX, about $5000 (include hotel). that's why i thought we go F&E. not so rush, no need to change hotel daily, can eat whatever we want and go at our own pace...
was in korea last year in dec... 2 adults and 2 kids (aged 6 and 2), we took with us 5 luggages (2 big ones, 2 medium and 1 small). quite a lot to pack for winter...astroboy:
I'm flying to Honshu in late December covering Osaka, Kyoto, Hakone and Tokyu with my family and will be visiting KittyLand, Universal Studio and Disneyland, all on packaged tour as its our 1st time there.
Not overly concern on the radiation as we will be there only a short while (versus living there) but yes.....earthquakes...as Japan is more prone to tremors. If indeed there's one, just hope it is a mild one and take it as part of the itinerary \"to experience and feel the tremors\".
Right now, shopping for winter clothing and realised wow, the luggage can be quite alot. Adult winter clothings are Ok but for young children after putting the down jacket and inner wear, they look like puffy dolls. Not sure they can really walk far with all those extra weights. -
The tour prices are very unregulated in Singapore. Everyday, you will get different prices from the same tour agency…even from the same person. They will give you alot of crap and blame them on the airlines. Even the flight time for the same air flight is also different…how to trust them??
I realised it is a jungle out there. Its about gimmicks, illusion and consumer-fatigue. Keep on advertising the same old thing, throw in plenty of freebies (of course with conditions) and when the time comes, consumer will bite simply because most quote the same range of prices. When you plan to travel in year end, you got to buy the tours one way or another.
If you can DIY so much the better…own time, own target. Unfortnately, next time for me as got two young children to worry about now. Need to have hotel rooms, transport and food all provided…very lazy lah!!! -
Hi Astroboy,
Fully agreed with you. Even after you confirmed with the agency, they will tell you that there’s not enough to travel and the whole trip is cancelled just 2 weeks before departure. Very disappointed. -

Hi Royal Pinky,
I am planning a trip to Japan with my kids in early Nov too... Wondering how's ur planning going.. we are just heading for Tokyo as we have 2 young children, 21 mths and 7 mths...
Having some prob searching for thermal wear for my 7mths baby.. search M&S and mothercare, smallest is 1.5yrs old... sigh...
Hi Pinkitty,
Well have alrdy scheduled to depart this Friday... with a travel agent and will be extending our stay in Osaka, but would prefer Tokyo...
You can try FOX at Marina or AMK, they have very cute winter clothes for baby. -
Anybody can advise how much to bring? My trip is full board for 8 days. Most meals will be provided and entrances to theme parks also included. So will be paying those souvenirs, titbits and tips (already worked out tips to driver and guide is ard S$400/ total). Also where in Singapore is the best place to change Yen (exchange rate now is 61 yen to $1). Yuks…so strong the yen nowadays!
