Yes... I believe jedamum's got the answer for the Molly... an aquarium fish that gives birth to its young.

Hi, as a parent with a boy in P4, I just read that 2 days ago. Yes Molly is a fish which gives birth to its young, similar to swordtail, guppy. Read that in the notes in an assessment book so who can say assessment books are not useful!

The new science exam format is definitely more challenging than my time( which is like 30 years ago). No more - give the definition...what is required for a process...It now involves lots of experimental set ups and the kids are tested on the principles on what they have learnt from inference. Interesting but tough for a young kid therefore I have arrowed my hubby with the job of tutoring my kid in Science 😄

The Science syllabus is definitely more challenging and interesting at the same time. But some of the questions I have come across depends very heavily on interpretation of pictures and words, and some are downright unfair questions.

And how come daddies are better in science than mummies?

Well daddy is arrowed cos mummy is too lazy to have to study the syllabus all over again to be able to tutor. I pick Maths instead, which I still have to make sure I can do the so called challenging sums before I get my kids to do but my… my… some schools do try to be difficult to their kids… No wonder I read about how some parents get freaked out by the mid term results and start calling the ‘boutique’ tution centres in panic…

Hi lee hwee Ming... sounds like you've got Primary Maths totally under control 🙂 Good for you. Perhaps you can help out in our Px Math threads where we post the most challenging of the problem sums we have come across thus far.

Teaching Primary science is hard! That's from first hand experience. The way I do it is to buy a couple of \"PSLE encyclopedias\" from Popular and use them as bibles. I will then let my son work on the past year Science exams from other schools and for those questions that he gets wrong, we will zoom further into the question, relying on the PSLE handbooks and the Internet to resolve the problem.

For instance, I just came across a problem which has a similar description as the following:
\"What will happen if you place 2 bar magnets side-by-side, with 1 bar having its N-pole pointing up, and the other with its S-pole pointing up?\"

Do you think the bars will be attracted together, repel each other, or have zero effect on one another? I believe the supplied answer is wrong.

I was quite anxious as this is the 1st yr that my girl was having Science .
Yesterday, when she was doing the revision for fungi & Bacteria, my hubby & I were busy doing research and surfing the net looking for answers. Most of the questions did'nt come from the textbook.
Do anyone know any GOOD SCIENCE ENRCIHMENT BOOK for P3.
Btw anyone know the answer :-
Beer should be classify under using Fungi or Bacteria ?
(1 book stated it bacteria, another website stated using yeast ?) :?:
