All About Full-Time Maids

There’s no way they can detect an incomplete miscarriage without doing a full gynae exam unless she declares it. I don’t think we can expect the medical to pick up every possible thing that is wrong with them. They only check to see if she is currently pregnant - which she isn’t.

My maid told me recently that her menses came twice a month (for the past few months) and got heavy bleeding. I booked an appointment for her at KKH for checkup next week. I think the consultation and scanning will cost >$200. If need to do any surgery, can claim insurance?

tiger88, you'd need to check the policy - some don't cover gynaecological diseases ( :scratchhead: thought that's the first and foremost for a lady?)nms1:
Yes, I understand that. She actually has a gynae letter dated Oct 18/11 which she did not declare to the medicals neither here nor in the PH; so the medicals, like a previous poster said IS NEVER FOOLPROOF! :slapshead:There's no way they can detect an incomplete miscarriage without doing a full gynae exam unless she declares it. Seeing GP today and then will update all.

yeah, when I was picking up this new maid, there was one other maid waiting to be sent home. Apparently she had a known issue of severe childhood bronchitis - but since okay. Chest X-rays have also shown okay. The infamous medical check-ups also revealed nothing of concern.Andaiz:
What I do not understand is WHY the medical check-ups did NOT highlight this issue - the one done here and the one in PH.
negligence?? though I suspected to be the case cause they hardly do the full checkup... its just doc will ask few questions like you feeling ok any prior disease etc for which agency would have oredi taught them to reply NO No NO...
But she was not feeling well in her 2nd month (cough) and went to see doctor. When asked about her medical history, the childhood episode came up. The employer then decided to send her back.
One wonders how flawed the medical exams are! These helpers are actually in constant contacts with our children and our elderlies....isn't their health history cause for concern? Or am I alone in this? :skeptical:LKVM:

Andaiz,
Ya i will check the policy to see what’s being covered. -
Update on my maid.
Went to see the GP today; and he believes that she has POC (retained product of conception) which explains why she is still bleeding after all this time.
They’ve given her Norethisterone which is a synthetic progesterone; hopefully to stop the bleeding. If it doesn’t, she’d have to go for a D&C.
Apparently this costs S$1000 which in the doctor’s words, "you are not obliged to pay."
At the docs, new issues revealed:
- She mentioned that she has had a positive pg test back in August in PH (why didn’t the agent tell me?) but she refuted becoz she’s still had her menses.
- apparently, there was another positive test in October but by then she had miscarried in late Sep, so the agent had her sent to the OB&G.
And when I went home to pick her up earlier on, she was limping becoz her heel was swelling. Oh what medical liabilities these are! -
Andaiz:
The doctor may say that you are not obliged to pay but if you don't, who will? I can't imagine that she has $1000 to spare so you will definitely have to pay upfront even if you can try to get it back later.Update on my maid.

I just got a maid from a maid agency .The 1st maid I took from them was 2 years ago and since she was a transfer maid, I had to pay 3 months upfront salary of the maid to the agency. I just took another maid ,6 year experience who just returned to Indon, Now I had to pay 7.5 mth of her salary to the agency. The maid joined my house 2 weeks ago and I can never see her smiling ,she always has a sad look on her face.
I feel very disturbed and unsecured because I have 2 kids in the house. According to MOM, EA can take only a max of 2 mth salary. She is quiet ,cleans the house well, but i dont dare to tell her if i have any extra duties for her,cos of the way she looks at me.
I have spoken to her and maid claims that she doesnt know that so much salary will be deducted, she will be gettiing $10 only until 29 Jun 2012.
I have called her agency but they said they cant do anything because before she came here, her family was given 2 million Rupiah by the training centre.
Training her at home for cooking and other stuff has been time consuming, isnt it too much to cut this much salary, should I write to MOM about this ? -
Andaiz:
Oh dear...and she's been with you only for 2 weeks. When the agent sent her to the OB&G, was any procedure done? If this was all done but not declared, can't you return her to the agent? What does the agent say?Update on my maid.

She's not likely to be able to work, which is no help to you. Perhaps give her some compassion money and send her home for treatment? Medical fees in Singapore can bleed anyone dry. It's a difficult situation, especially since it involves someone who is basically a random stranger.
