So does NUSH school bookshop sell does exam papers? But i can't go on 22nd December as my DD3 has a performance on that day. Does anyone know where to buy does exam papers beside the school bookshop? Anyway a little out of topic, anyone knows about Victoria IP and Temasek IP too? Maybe my daughter would apply for that too. 😄

I did not see any past exams papers on sale last year. In fact, during DS' matriculation last year, a stall was put up selling books and files etc. There were very few items put up for sales. Only text books required were the standard Chinese textbooks/workbooks and a Biology book which was used more as a reference book. As NUSH syllabus is quite unique, it is difficult to find suitable text books. In any case, the school provides very good notes for all the subjects.

For those who are going into NUSH Year 1 next year, you may interested to know that, for most subjects, there is no real need to prepare. Just make sure you understand every lesson, diligently revise the notes given and do all the worksheets, you would be OK. The only exception perhaps would be Maths. At NUSH, by end of Year 2, they would have to cover the entire O Level E Maths and about 30% of A Maths. Because of that, the school tends to go quite fast for Maths. You may visit NUSH website to obtain the topics covered and a good reference book to have would be Insight Mathematics for Sec 1 and Sec 2.

      Hope this helps.

If I were to be in your position, I would seriously consider the VJC/TJC option. NUSH is a specialised school, they do pure sciences from Year 1. By the end of the foundation years (ie end of Year 2), the NUSH kids would have covered most (if not all) of the \"O\" Level syllabus for Chemistry, Physics, E Maths & 30% of A Maths. These kids will obviously have a significant advantage over the newbies coming in at Year 3 from mainstream schools. Not necessarily because they are brighter but more so by virtue of their significant head start. Plus the fact that the NUSH kids would have gotten used to the school system, it would quite challenging for those who come in at Year 3. I would not want to put my kids through this.

As opposed to NUSH, majority of VJC/TJC Year 3 kids will be from mainstream (there will be a small number tranferees from other IP schools), so as far as syllabus and school system are concerned, everyone would start on a more or less even ground. Two years down the road, at JC level, they would enjoy a small advantage over those coming in after the \"O\" level.

This, of course, is my humble opinion.

          a) does anyone happen to have the closest hyperlink for pure Biology & Chemistry that provides the detailed breakdown of syllabus topics to be taught / covered, going year by year (from Sec 1 to Sec 4) & Term by Term ? can't seem to find it on school website. Thanks for kind help rendered !

          b) for Biology - is it in yr 2 or yr3 then start students on practial hands on dissection work on guinea pigs, mice, rat, rabbits, frogs /toads, goat etc ?

          c) in which year did NUS High start to operate, and taught the pioneering first batch of students ?
to date - how many batches of students had graduated so far, & gone on to join the NUS High alumni ?

              a) http://www.highsch.nus.edu.sg/userfiles/file/Academic%20Curriculum/Module%20offer%202011/Programme%20of%20Studies%202011_Public%20Version_11.02.23.pdf

              b) Biology at NUSH is very unique - eg, in Year 1, they did one whole semester on Ecology and another semester on Cell Biology

              c) NUSH started 7 years ago with 2 intakes - Year 1 & Year 3. Including this year graduating class, 4 batches had gone through the system. First batch of 88 students (Year 3 intake) graduated 3 years ago. Those who enrolled 7 years ago at Year 1 graduated last year.

Sorry for the confusion, what I meant was those who join VJC/TJC at Sec 3 will have a small advantage over those who join the schools at JC1 level. Having being in the schools for 2 years, those who DSAed at Sec 3 would be used to the school system, teachers etc. Not a very significant advantage though.

                    hi DVL,

Thank you for the Biology info. 🙂

                    hi dagong99,

come Monday morning - you may call up NUS High bookshop directly, check if they still have stock of this Yr 1 'Insight Maths' book. Sometimes this bookshop within the school premises may sell cheaper than outside Popular bookstore outlets (if any).

besides Maths, can also ask the seller which other Science, English, Mother tongue text they sell? This bookshop is located inside the canteen:-

You can get the Math Insight books from Popular. They are standard text for many schools use these books as textbooks. NUSH bookshop is run by Popular. I don't think there is any price difference between the regular Popular store and NUSH bookshop.
