      Hi Insider,

      That's a very interesting information.
Even though my DD's prechool adopts all this but I am worried if she would be lost when joins P1 when peers are way ahead of her.
My dd's current preschool also adopted this concept but I know tat this will be really insufficient for P1 preparation and thus enrol her in other enrichment classes. I hv gone thru P1 assessment n past yr test paper and it's no joke.

As her preschool does not adopt spelling test in K2, she in fact feel nervous and lost of what to do during her spelling test in her P1 preparation class. She does not know how to react to the sudden spelling test. In the end, she got 4 out of 10 words correct. I hv gone thru the words that she missed in the spelling test and she can spell correctly at home. Adequate exposure in this kind of environment during K2 can really help the children in preparating their next milestone.

        fyi

my friend's son kindergarten set tests for K2 kids in (K2 english, maths, chinese) . She said she feels stressed, said purpose is to test if the kids are ready for P1 standard. She said this kindergarten is academic, & competitive. It is a montessori pre-school located in the east.

however, majority of kindergarten at K2 - no tests. Still happy go, larky kind. 😂

for K2 - should kindergarten set tests for English & Maths ?

my friend's kid kindy at K2 set tests for the children, but not another friend's kindy K2.
Did your friend check with the kindy what are the purpose of those tests?
Is it in line with the MOE pre-school curriculum guideline?

Perhaps you may like to input your view if your kid is also a preschooler 😄

Just my 2 cents worth of opinion 😂

I was a Preschool Educator for the past 17 years. At present - a freelance enrichment trainer.

With regards to Preschool Curriculum - consider browsing into MOE website link :
            http://www3.moe.edu.sg/preschooleducation

or get the whole set (8 books) from any popular bookstores :

\"Nurturing Early Learners - A Framework for Kindergarten Curriculum in Singapore\" - produced by Pre-School Education Unit, Ministry of Education in 2003 which contains of the 8 categories of Kindergarten Curriculum as follows :

            Book 1 - Kindergarten Curriculum - Framework
Book 2 - Kindergarten Curriculum - Putting Principles into Practice
            Book 3 - Aesthetics & Creative Expression
            Book 4 - Environmental Awareness
            Book 5 - Language & Literacy Development
Book 6 - Motor Skills Development
            Book 7 - Numeracy
            Book 8 - Self & Social Awareness

Although most childcare centres and kindergartens do try to practice all the above approaches, my past experiences were : many teachers experiences a hindrance towards developing the \"Language & Literacy Development\" module with proficiency due to the fact that most of the Preschool Educational Course Providers - will only recommend some Phonics packages for the teachers to use and they don't train the teachers in details on how to teach Phonics comprehensively well. As a result, not many teachers are adept in this area of teaching. Likewise, for the Maths, Aesthetics & Creative Expression Modules.

Hoping that MOE and MCYS will be insistent to emphasize to the ECCE Course Providers of the importance of adepting the teachers with these modules of knowledge viably well - in order that all the little ones will be built with a strong foundation over these areas of knowledge and needs.

The reason of my career switch was partly due to the concern in these area. However, after achieving my Diploma in Education (inclusive of Phonics, Speech & Drama and Music & Movement), I had offered to childcare centres to train their teachers with these knowledges at a lower rates of fees - but most Centre's bosses shared that they do not have extra budgets for these expenses.

They had also related that the ECCE Course providers should do those jobs for their teachers because they had realized that their Mainland Chinese Teachers who had their ECCE Certificates were very well trained in all areas, like : Hanyu Pinyin; Piano playing, cherographing of dances and etc.during their 3 yrs of full-time training in China.

Parents - kindly feedback to MCYS and MOE on the above concerns for our next gerneration's (our future leaders) benefits !!!

            Best Regards

Agree with you insider-jie. Lecture hours for us back then (like reali eons ago) were really just well.. HOURS of lecture. There were a few lecturers who made us work hands-on (in groups) and also random individuals.. :nailbite: I always kenna wan. :slapshead: Mebbe cos i was too inquisitive or perhaps too onz. 😆 Pat was one of those lecturers who came for lectures with surprise ideas & assignments. As she is in mainstream, she worked the groups according to learning centre ideas. I like it though cos coming from work the whole day with children with back/spine bent backwards, we're really all bushed. Some excitement was definitely appreciated. 😂

Truth be told, i truly learnt \"how to teach\" from the Montessori lectures. It was systematic, purposeful, extremely in-depth and hands-on and after having served so many years i can further understand why the theories.. why this and why that.. as i too was one of those sceptics when it came to other schools of thought apart from the other theorists like as Freud, Piaget, Vygotsky, Howard Gardner amongst others. During lectures, we also dived into the theories and ideologies of other educators/theorists and i do find Montessori does complement them in some ways.

                      Hi hi,

Anyone can share if Kinderland (pre-school)'s curriculum is good enough for P1 preparation? Is the bishan/pemimpin branch having the same curriculum as the rest of the Kinderland?
